By using this forum you agree to the following terms:


No hostility. All discussions must be friendly and civil.

No threats of physical violence. If you do this you can expect an instant ban.

No inflammatory posts. No controversial, offensive or otherwise disruptive posts which are likely to provoke an angry or emotional response.

No posts or pm's attacking other members. Teasing or jesting between forum friends is fine, but it must be in an obviously friendly manner preferably with a smiley to make it clear you are joking. Otherwise it will be considered hostile. If either party objects to teasing then both sides must stop immediately.

No racism.

No lying.

No posts of an 'adult' nature.

No swearing. Don't 'hide' swearing by replacing certain letters with others or inserting spaces.

No spamming. Do not post or send unsolicited pm's advertising something or promoting another website without the permission of the administrator.

No defamatory posts.

No copyrighted material. Do not post or upload any material protected by copyright without the permission of the owner of the copyright. You shall be solely liable for any damage resulting from any such infringement of copyright.

No more than one membership per person. Do not register or use more than one username per user.

No mod-bashing. Do not question, mock, or complain about moderators or their decisions on the boards. The moderators will happily discuss individual decisions by PM only and if there has been misunderstanding then posts can be undeleted and restored to the forum. Should a member feel that their complaint hasn't been dealt with appropriately by the Moderator, or they still wish to dispute any action taken, they should contact the Administrator who will have the final say on the matter.

Do not publish any personal information about another member (eg real name, address, email address) unless they have stated they are happy for it to be posted. Please respect the privacy of other members. Do not publish an email or pm that someone has sent you privately.


Posts that break the above rules will be deleted. For blatant or persistent offences a number of warnings will be given before issuing a ban. The number of warnings issued will depend on the seriousness of the incident(s) as deemed by the moderators. In some cases no warnings may be issued at all before banning.

The moderators reserve the right to delete any content they regard as inappropriate. When posts are deleted an explanation may or may not be given depending on how obvious the problem is. If you notice one of your posts has been deleted and do not know why, please pm the moderators for an explanation.

The staff or the owners of this forum do not continually monitor the posted messages, and as such, are not responsible for the content contained within. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of any information presented. The posted messages express the views of the author, and not necessarily the views of this forum, its staff, its subsidiaries, or this forum's owner. Anyone who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to notify the administrators of this forum immediately. Advice on forum etiquette

There are many different types of people who are members of the Walking Forum, with many wide-ranging and often disparate tastes and preferences. One of the primary goals of our cyber community is to foster an intelligent,enjoyable, and civil exchange of thoughts and ideas about walking, the outdoors and related topics between our members. You may even make new friends here.

We expect you to respect the opinions of your fellow forum  members. Please curb any urge you may have to flippantly dismiss someone's opinion (examples: "that's stupid", "that's ignorant","that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard", or "that's bull").

Since this an open forum, obviously many different areas of the country will be discussed. Statements condemning or criticising members' personal taste in countries, mountains, routes etc is not acceptable. Where you have a contradictory opinion, try to argue with reasoning or use a forum caveat such as “in my humble opinion (IMHO)” Likewise, vicious attacks on an individual *outside* of the forum are not allowed.

Spelling and/or grammar corrections: If you feel you must correct another member, contact the person via email or though a Private Message ONLY. Note: an exception to this would be pointing out to someone that they have misspelled a fell or mountain's name (for example, Scafell where someone might state scarfel); a name correction can be posted on the forum. Still - keep it polite and use those smilies! Be warned – many do not take kindly to this and some may have been using irony and intentionally misspelled the name. If you DO misspell a name for any reason, the use of the term (sic) will illustrate your intention and hopefully prevent confusion.

Please refrain from quoting entire posts in your replies, or reposting images from an original message. To reply, we ask that you trim out all but the relevant points you are replying to. This keeps the forum easier for your fellow members to read, and does not clutter up a thread with unnecessary text. It also impacts less on the hosting servers. For further information on quoting posts see the FAQ (coming soon).

In writing your post, please do your fellow members a courtesy by not using common "texting" techniques like dropping capital letters, abbreviating words or leaving basic punctuation out of messages; these messages may be removed.

•  Please treat all other forum users with respect, whether they are new or long established ones. Those of you who are very experienced, please remember we all had to start somewhere and try not to be patronising to the less competent or knowledgeable

  Where you may think that you are being witty and slightly cheeky in your post, others may think you are being highly rude. On that basis, the use of smilies can emphasise what you are attempting to impart. Think about what you write and the impact it may have and don't post if you are angry

  Before posting a question, please look through the forum, using the search facility. The topic may have been covered before, possibly several times

  When you disagree with someone’s opinion and need to comment on it, Please state your argument with reason and consideration

  Remove all ambiguity wherever possible, even if that means typing a longer post

•  If an affront is perceived, do not feel the need to fight your own battles on the forum. The moderators exist to keep the peace, so leave it to them. Do NOT start an argument in the forum – any such posts WILL be deleted

•  Modern society has become inured to the swear-word but some people are still offended by their use. The Walking Forum uses a swear-word blocker, however, some letters are simply replaced by asterisks and the censored word can still be easily recognised. Wherever possible try to phrase your reply without resorting to profanities

  When quoting from external sources, please always cite your sources (where possible)

  Please refrain from copying the whole of someone’s post when using the Quote function, especially when photographs are concerned. We only need to see the same picture once in each thread and repetition will impact on the page and its loading time

  Where possible please stay on topic and refrain from holding lengthy private conversations within the thread. The odd remark is to be expected but when this looks like taking on a life of it’s own, think about the use of a PM or starting up a new, more relevant thread to encompass the new train of thought.
