With glorious weather on offer this week-end, I decided to tackle one of the seven sevens. Should I do Slieve Lamagan or Binnian I wondered whilst driving down? Eventually I decided upon Slieve Binnian. Normally I would climb this mountain from Carrick Little car park but, on this occasion, I decided to climb the mountain from the Silent Valley car park. Whilst climbing the mountain it occurred to me that I had never ascended the mountain from this car park! Previous ascents were always made from Carrick Little car park. Starting at 11am I embarked upon a circular route taking in Moolieve and wee Binnian before summiting Binnian at 1pm. Thereafter I traversed the best ridge walk in the Mournes, the back castles of Slieve Binnian to Ben Crom reservoir. My return route was upon a good track beside the Silent Valley reservoir back to the car park. The car park was quite busy with tourists when I returned for refreshments. This walk has been my favourite walk in the Mournes this year as it combined my favourite low level walk and high level walk into one adventure. I'll split the photos over two reports. Total distance was just over 13km taking just under 4 hours.
No idea what the bird is called!
