My wife is after a pair of lightweight, cool and practical walking trousers for summer use, mid price range.
Any recommendations please?

I have worn Craghoppers Kiwis for a long time and my wife also likes the female equivalent.

Thanks Mike - my wife was looking at Kiwis.

We both like Craphoppers too but I can't recall which ones......

I have bought a few different makes of trousers over the years from the cheaper Mountain Warehouse, Hi Gear ones to the more expensive North Face and Mountain Equipment ones. I can't say I could recommend one pair over another to be honest except the North Face ones have been more hard wearing. Beefy has some Montane Terra pants and they look really nice and I might treat myself to some when I lose some weight.

I think Decathlon is worth a look, I have two pairs of £12.99 lightweight, robust, easy washing, quick-drying and for me anyway, really comfortable trousers and both are an excellent fit. I even use them, when I've used up my running pants stock and they are in the wash or drying to run off-road in. They sell ladies' models, their lowest price is £7.99 a pair.

My wife has tried on various trousers but has found Craghoppers Kiwi Classic fit her the best and she has stuck with them ever since. She seems a normal size 12 to me but she finds the waistbands of most other walking trousers hang a bit too low to be comfortable and they are also often lacking in the pockets department, not to mention sometimes being crazily priced for what they are.

My last pair of Craghoppers have lasted me forever - around 8-9 years I reckon, and still going. Just got meself some Craghopper Kiwi Pros - good fit, were on offer, what's not to like. O0

Actually, I think it is the Kiwi Pro Stretch that my wife likes the best.

My preference is Mountain Equipment Comici. Very lightweight and fairly narrow cut but a bit more than middle price range.

Worth a look at Rohan. They’ve got a Sale on again at the moment and also have a section called the Souk where older stock is sold. It depends on her sizing but our daily dog walking trousers are Rohan of various weights to suit the weather and season. Lightweight stretchy, quick drying with some nice quirks. You’ve just missed a load at 50% off a short time ago.

My wife asked me to pass on her thanks for all the replies.
Craghoppers Kiwis seem to be popular, but that Rohan sale is tempting

A lot of people swear by craghoppers, but I find they don't fit me all that well. I have a pair of very light Rab ones I like, and I've had a couple of pairs of Berghous ones, not sure what they are called, but I bought them from the shop at Gretna Gateway, which usually takes a bit off the price.

Craggy kiwis (the stretch ones) for me too .... buuuuut, I have found that the Karrimor version of them fit me better (hip/waist ratio) and are cheaper too.
