Mel, I hate to be pedantic (but I will lol) but you failed in your challenge because a year is 365.25 days, bwahahahaha

Ignore bricam Mel!  Something about this post niggled at the back of my boffin's brain so I checked.
A year is actually 365.2422 days (Source: NASA https://pumas.jpl.nasa.gov/files/04_21_97_1.pdf) which to 2 decimal places means you are there!

Don't do it one go. Find a pub around 6 miles away - walk to it. Have a drink or three and a packet of scratchings.  When you have drunk enough to forget the walk there - walk back.  ;)

That made me chuckle.  O0  Must find this year's thread and set my self a target milage and accent gained.

If no-one starts one today I'll stick my head above the parapet and start one myself.

Still thinking about what target to set - tempted to say 1500 miles, but that is a bit of a step up from what I achieved in 2018.

One question though - how many people do you think would be interested in recording ascent gained?
I wouldn't, but I suppose there would be no harm in including an optional 4th column.

Well done everyone. I have to do it all again. My International Walking Group members on my blog are signing up for it, most of the existing members plus some newbies. I have to be there to cheer them on, would be a disaster if I dropped out, what have I let myself in for. They have to check in on the first of every month.

I don't record ascents, just the miles does me fine.

Hi again. I've just done a count up, 44 people are joining me on the challenge this year, quite a few new ones. Not all will do the 1000, but at least they are having a go. The health benefits of regular walking are the bonus. Some of their stories are quite inspiring, if I may paste one here.

Hello to the walking group, Happy New Years! Thank you Ilona for this wonderful group activity. This is my third year of walking. For 2018 I walked 683 miles. I walked less this year but went to the gym regularly to improve my strength, balance and flexibility, I am 62.   Ilona, you always mention the health benefits of walking and I would like to emphasize your comments. I started walking a bit more than three years ago, was 30 pounds overweight and out of shape. I joined your group and did each day what I could, whether it was to the neighbors house or 1/4 mile. Now I walk every day and I credit walking with my weight loss and improved health. So for anyone considering this group, you don’t need to start at 1,000 miles a year, start at 100 steps today and see where it takes you.
