We couldn't think of an excuse quick enough so we found ourselves agreeing to a trip to Scotland with Karl and Sooz :D
Sooz was staying in the YH and us three were camping, we walked from the Glen Nevis YH and found a nice pitch after about 30 minutes. We ended up coming back here the next two nights to pitch.

A rare moment when Karl was actually still awake ;)

Next day we went up Ben Nevis using the tourist path or mountain track.
Our lunch time view at the half way point. It was sunny and very hot. It was a bit hazy so not great for long distance shots

We returned the same way we'd come up. The mountain track is long but the gradients are easy. It was so hot on the way back down and I think we were all suffering with heat stroke when we got back down to the valley. Not what we expected coming to Scotland! We collected our gear from Sooz's car and walked to the same pitch from the night before. Karl fell asleep almost immediately :o
Next day it was more of the same extreme heat as we walked into Glen Nevis
A rather disconcerting sign at the start

The path did go along the side of a big drop into the gorge for a short time, we could see why the sign was there but you could keep well away from the drop.

We thought this mountain was An Gearanach

We started walking back again. We stopped to cool off in the river for a while, the heat was so intense along with the humidity it totally sapped your strength. But this is Scotland, we were thinking! We were lucky by the time we got back to the car it had just started raining but it had stopped when we were pitching our tents later. Karl fell asleep straight away again ;D
Next day we visited Fort William before we got our train back home

Great photos April, I did Ben Nevis myself a few years ago and got a day similar to yours. The view is great. I did the Cobbler last June from Arrochar. Here are some of my photos:

Great photos and lovely memories ( well the bits I can remember ) ;D
Wasn't it strange just setting up the tents wherever we liked without worrying about irate farmers or being seen by passers-by O0
-
Thanks Henry and your pics are fab O0 We might pop up to do the Cobbler and the mountains around it for a few days, it isn't that far on the train from where we are. :)
the bits I can remember
You were asleep all of the time, it is a wonder you woke up for the walks :D

It is supposed to be ok wild camping in Scotland but can you remember seeing the "No Camping" signs by the road? I think we took that as "No Camping beside the road" :)

Super photos and great to see your TR April.
Looks like very un-seasonal weather you had. Did you get troubled with midges or weren't they keen on you lot :D
The Cobbler always looks splendid and just one of those inviting mountains that draws you to them. It is on my 'to do' list.

He is a crossdresser :D

We had a huge bug net that we sat under the first night. We used bug spray too and the last two nights the bug net wasn't needed, the spray kept them all away. I did get a few bites the last morning, only because I was too lazy to use the spray :)
