Hats cause me similar problems - I have a small head which must be a weird shape compared to other peoples' as hats either ride up or flop down over my eyes. Children sized hats sometimes work but my preferred solution is to use a Buff fashioned into a sort of beanie - turn it inside out, twist in the middle, then fold one end back over other. Not a fashion statement but works for me.
So many paths yet to walk, so little time left

If I send her the wool will she make me one?

No, ignore that, it's just part of a rude joke that sprang to my mind!

Get one that has the folded up bit at the bottom and just unfold it, then you can pull it right down

I have just started using a headband instead of a hat, as I was given one for Christmas. Warm ears and a cool head, suits me very well.

A Buff can be used like that. Incredibly versatile.

I am also a Buff fan so versatile and you can get thermal ones, you can also use for many things, great for backing on multi day walks, I always have a couple tucked away in the rucksack.

Thank you, you may have given me a good idea. Since I lost my beanie recently I've been looking for something similar, maybe a buff is a better option for me?

I have a fleece one but it tends to fall forward over my forehead. Perhaps it is too big. Another good use for a fleece hat is as a teapot cosy when I stop mid walk at a tearoom. Keeps the pot nice and hot with the bonus of a warm hat to wear afterwards.  ;D

I use a fleece headband when it is not so cold. Warm ears seems to make a lot of difference to how I feel.

I have a headband but never wear it, my wife always laughs, it reminds her of John McEnroe!

I have reached the age where I don't care what others think about what I want. If it's comfortable and does the job I want I wear it. If others think I  look odd that is their opinion.

I wear it as a hairband rather than John McEnroe style. It keeps my hair out of my eyes as well, dual purpose!

One of the advantages of getting older :)

Thanks for all the replies. I'm obviously not the only one with this "problem".Having given it a lot of thought I might get one of these:

With that head gear you will be positively encouraged to visit the Lake District. Perhaps you will be entitled to a grant?
