Well done Sioban and family, That's quite an achievment, taking on Striding Edge, on your first visit to the LD.  I've had a look at pic No4 and added some names to the fells  You're looking north down the course of Red Tarn Beck.  I'm not too sure about Great Dodd, I wouldn't have thought you could see it from there - but it's definately the "right shape"

Thanks Brandywell, that's fantastic O0 Thankyou O0

Oi you, lay off the Essex girl remarks, my Muvver was from Dag'nham (she'd kill me if she knew I had told anyone) so I was nearly an Essex girl meself. mate. ;D

Well, this thread makes me feel like a wuss.  Your pics look fantastic, and you and your family should be right proud of yourselves. :)   Rich reckons we could do it easy, but I am not so sure!! I have got this image of me shouting 'don't panic' in a Corporal Jones type way, whilst frozen to the spot with fear!!  One day ..... maybe, just maybe!!
The only way is up!!

Thanks for your comments but if you saw some of the people that were up there too.  They wouldn't have looked out of place with a 'kiss me quick' hat on their heads and an icecream in their hands.  It felt more like a visit to the pleasure park.  Pearsy is absolutely correct in respecting the mountains and that definately wasn't happening with some people when we were there.

A steady dog could find it's way over Striding Edge quite easily, there's lots of alternative routes around any scrambly bits.  There is 'the chimney', which is about a 15ft downclimb, but I am told there is a wimp's route around that too.

The chimney is on the right and the "easier" way is on the left, if you are going towards Helvellyn.

Just picked up on this.
Good photos and nice one Brandywell (as usual ;) O0 )
As for dogs, it obviously depends on the dogs and the conditions on the day.
Here's a bit of film of S/E with Zeta making her way across- doesn't mean every dog will do it.

Nice one Sioban that was a good walk for your first one in the Lakes, looks like you had good weather because some of the views were very clear. Well done all.

What are those inflatable canoes like, I was thinking of getting one for messing about on the river.  :-\

I'd say it depends on what you want to use them for.

The canoes were great on the lake and I would use them on a small river but I wouldn't be sure of anything else.  They're Sevylor canoes and I got them on Amazon.  I went for the cheaper ones as I needed to get two. Looking at other ones  on the campsite we stayed in, I'd say if you can afford it the dearer ones are more robust and the seats look much better, the seats aren't too comfy in ours.  But the great thing is that you can pack them in the back of your car and they only take about 10 mins to pump up.
