Yesterday's walk took me over the back castles of Slieve Binnian, the third highest mountain in the Mournes. Starting from Carrick Little, my walk followed the Mourne wall to the south Tor of the mountain; this is probably the quickest/most direct route to the summit. Recent path improvements made the ascent easier than previous years. Weather was sunny to begin with before cloud set in while walking the ridge. Upon reaching the north tor of Binnian, the cloud lifted, revealing fantastic views of Ben Crom reservoir. After lunch I returned to Carrick Little via the Annalong valley. The back castles of Binnian would be my favourite walk in the Mournes. Total distance was just over 11km, taking 3.5 hours.
