It's a long drive to and from Scotland's Highlands and Islands so we like to have an overnight stop on the way. On our way south last summer, we stayed at Heads Nook Hall near Carlisle, not only because it looked amazing, but it's also a very convenient 5 miles from the M6.



Once we'd settled in, we went for a walk (as you do) - a very pleasant 4 mile stroll along country lanes passing through Heads Nook, Fenton and Faugh on the way. The reason I'm mentioning this now is because this afternoon I did a Street View treadmill run/walk along the exact same route we took; I like to combine exercise with a spot of reminiscing.  :)



While the outside of the Hall looks impressive, the inside is quite incredible - like something out of Downton Abbey.

Heads Nook Hall is close to a number of popular walking areas, so a stopover of more than one night might appeal...
