We were travelling through Grasmere on the bus on Saturday and I spotted David Hall walking through the village. I resisted the urge to jump off the bus and chase after him like a maniac, just to say hello  :-[  :) We wondered where he was going walking and we were sad to realise we wouldn't know. Anyway, seeing him started something in my head, this poem, that has been wandering around in my head ever since and wouldn't go away.

Tribute

This poem's been inspired by David Hall
His Lake District website was the best of them all
The first place I looked, along with the nation
For walks on the Fells, our inspiration
We should have thanked him before he left
Because without his site we are so bereft

So this is a tribute to all you authors and bloggers
The website creators and the You Tube Vloggers
To a fellow named beefy the master of time lapse
He does a few panos and some drone footage, perhaps
Leave no trace, you know the drill from Garn Fora Ratch
Roger and Diane's videos are so hard to match

Yep, Back Out videos from Andy Wardle
Are fun to watch if you have time to dawdle
Andy take no notice of the thumb downs
You know those sad gits are a bunch of clowns
Karls Walks or Kut Price Tours with Lynne, Helen and Sooz
And You Tube Part Timer All About The Views

Howling Mist and Occasionally Lost
Such well written blogs, i's dotted and t's crossed
Sean McMahon's Striding Edge dot net
With dogs Fletcher and Dougal, the latest duet
Rest in Peace dear Casper and Angus
Sean's old dogs who are no longer with us

Another good site with a Lake District theme
Is Paul Sharkey's from Wigan; He Has A Dream
With detail aplenty on Wainwright Routes
This site will inspire you to put on your boots
Reading the books on the Wainwrights and Birketts
Will guide your way round a few fell circuits

Last name Richards, first name Mark
He also writes about the best National Park
Terry Marsh and Bob Allen two more mountain writers
Their books may lead to a few wild camp overnighters
Raise your glass, down the hatch, have a wee dram
To the web masters Andrew Leaney and Loweswater Cam

My memory is going of that there's no doubt
So please forgive me if I've left you out
So thank you all for your toil and trouble
Please continue, don't burst our bubble
I will end with a salute to David Hall
His Lake District site was the best of them all
Hate will never win

How very nice of you to post this,
I hope they all get to see it...
Just goes to show you don't always know when people appreciate what you do, and it's nice to know your helping others
Well done Ape'    O0

Wow that's brilliant April. We never truly appreciate people or things till they are no longer there. We should show our appreciation more. I'm just as guilty. I enjoy reading and viewing reports and photos/videos but don't always say so.

Thanks to everyone who put in a lot of time and effort to post reports.
These boots are made for walking.... so long as the rest of my body agrees

It was feeling sad about what we have lost that made me think about the poem. Lostme1 you are right, we don't show our appreciation for things but are all very quick to criticise. There are lots of other great blogs, websites and you tubers I could have mentioned but the poem would have been about 5 times as long! So the poem is a tribute to everyone who takes the time to post things on here or on a blog or website. Thank you  :)

Nice piece of writing April, we are lucky to have a wonderful language with a very deep vocabulary, great to read something by someone who so obviously enjoys it.

I sympathize with the subject matter, so often a writer struggles to express something just so then a reader goes and takes in a totally different context, but C'est la Vie, in another very expressive language. ;)

;D You do know beefy is a bit of a poet as well, I await a cheeky poem about you  ;)

@ barewirewalker. I did enjoy writing it. I've not written any poems since I was at school, about a million years ago.

@ adalard - your blog is very well written, I love your writing style  O0

Very good poem April    :)    I too get inspiration and enjoyment from blogs and videos about walking.  It must take a lot of time to produce them, so it's nice of you to share your tribute

Karl is  a cretin, A big one at that
He likes to poke fun out And call me a Pratt
But when we go walking And follow his route
We soon get in trouble He's in disrepute

He likes to go walking, in all sorts of ways
Misguided direction you would be amazed
Ape calls it a Karl route, He's usually lost
He calls it a short cut, at what silly. Cost

He's up to his armpits In thick muddy bog
And too far ahead he gets hidden
In fog
Karl's now on the banned list
And that is so true
Put trust in this madman, not likely, would you?

Now Karl's reputation precedes him you know
On Karl's cut price tours you should surely not go
Hell promise adventure, and fun on the way
But Karl is a cretin there's no more to say
 :D :D :D
Leave only footprints, take only photographs, kill only time ...

Mmmm...not a bad effort, a bit long winded and forced in parts. 6/10
We best leave the poetry to the experts ( April )  ;)
Anyway when are we going on a wild camp so I can beat you up like I did on The Nab :D
