Spine Fusion 2019
« on: 12:27:43, 21/06/19 »

For all you forumites who like to watch dots for hours on end, the summer version of the Spine race starts tomorrow morning.

It's never going to live up to what we saw in the winter spine, and lacks the jeopardy of the winter weather, but still worth a watch I reckon.

Thanks for the links, folks.

Looks as if less people take part in the summer events. Or is that just my impression?

Anyone dot watching?  The update rate seems way slower than for the Spine and Challenger, or am I wrong?

Looks like superwoman part 2. Sabrina Verjee has taken the lead near the Packhorse Inn,around the fifty mile point.

Good grief - Sabrina and Cees are past Pen-y-Ghent already!

..as are half a dozen others.

No, the updating is erratic to say the least. Sabrina's last update was 0859 - 43 minutes ago. But if you click on her symbol and view the tracking info, there is a dot at 0917, ahead of her marker. Cees is apparently ahead, but I suspect that Sabrina is much further on than where she is shown, and still has the lead.

Yes it is very erratic. I've found if I refresh the screen it (usually) kicks in an update.

Looks like Sabrina has opened up a small lead now, having just reached Hawes. Also, looks like we have a clear winner of the Flare race in Benjamin Tyas. Well done that man.

Looks like a few more male egos are going to be dented.Appears Sabrina Verjee hasn't stopped at Hawes and is now near Thwaite with a decent lead.Last year's male winner was 3 days 6 hours,an exceptional time, and if she keeps going at this pace she might just finish inside it.Personally I feel these summer runners don't get the credit they deserve for these performances. The PW can be a beast at anytime of the year and in 2016 the winter Spine conditions were kinder than most summers.

Indeed. The heat can be more of a problem than the cold.

Cees van der Land, who led at one stage, appears to have dropped off the radar completely - I wonder where he is?

He's way back near Ribblehead, but his dot has a "no signal" symbol, as do many others, so it's difficult to see the big picture.
They obviously have a glitch in the tracking system.

Agree, worst day ever on the hills for me was a day in June 2012 when on the Pennine Way, nearly succumbed to hypothermia  :(
