The bus was late but I wasn't after all...plus spotting power stations.

Thanks Lee.  I like the idea of spotting power stations.  Is it a recognised pastime?
I was struck by the atmospheric images of the power stations, dramatic, grey and looming over the Trent. They have quite a lot in common with the churches you photograph, which used to be the dominant built features in the landscape.  Those churches are much underused now but we all love to look at them, so they are maintained and protected.  When Cottam and West Burton are no longer needed (before 2025 all coal-fired power stations are due to close) will we decide that they too are beautiful and enhance the view  :o  and maybe keep a few of them as heritage sites? Or will we just say 'good riddance' and demolish them, as happened (tragically) at Didcot?

From certain angles they look like giant battleships.

I think it would be possible for me to go on quite a short walk not too far from Doncaster and spot six power stations; three in the Aire Valley and three in the Trent Valley.
