Nursing a bad head cold over last week-end and with the weather not being great, last week-end's excursions were seriously curtailed in the lake district. I've always wanted to walk the Red Screes since I did the Fairfield Horseshoe in March 2015. With brighter skies to the east I headed up the Kirkstone Road before turning left through a gate onto the fell side. It was very windy as views opened up back to Windermere. There was a lot of snow on the ground but thankfully speed wasn't hampered too much. I wasn't intending to go onto the summit, thought I would save it for a later day when I felt better. I turned around at around 500 metres and returned to Ambleside. Hopefully I will look back one day and view this walk as preparation for the Scandale Horseshoe.
