Three Peak Challene - June 19th-21st
« on: 17:39:37, 07/05/19 »
All organised for the three peak challenge (24 hour one, of course) at the end of June with a team of 10 people from London. Our bus hire has just fallen through  >:( :( and we are stuck with what to do or how to go about completing the challenge.

All advice welcome! Many thanks  ;D

Welcome to the forum.

Are you not able to hire another bus?

That seems the logical option to me too, the only other practical one I can come up with is to use three of your own cars but that would be a pain in the bum as you’d want to rest in between the Peaks and not be wanting or needing the added stress and fatigue of driving.

But they must have had a driver for the first bus.

Welcome to the forum.

Thank you everyone! So we had driver and bus hired that would drive us from London and to all of the peaks. I am looking into other options but it seems we might have to get up north to either Chester or Manchester for the bus to then pick us up? The company we originally booked with have pulled out due to lack of drivers and need of the 9 hour break after driving us up to Scotland overnight.

Does anyone know of some good companies I can approach? Many thanks  :)

It is a bit odd all of this....in 24 hours.....are you doing this as one group or is it some sort of mass thing involving many vehicles and folks?
The thought of all of this charging around the island with hills thrown in as a challenge doesn't seem right.
I think that the bus companies have the correct attitude.....they are obeying the law.
You could hire a car and do this over 3 or 4 days perhaps....share the driving and have a pleasant trip.

It's a Thing - Vizzanova.  Popular with the young people I believe - less popular with the respective MRTs and the folk who live near the car parks.  Ninthace jr did it once when he worked for a large corporation in the City.  Took him 22hrs - I told him to do it quietly.

Much easier to do it as we did, 3 separate holidays over the year. Plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, do other walks, choose the best day. I can’t think why anyone would want to do it over 24 hours, they must be mad! But I guess if you’re doing it for charity, it’s got to be a challenge.  I feel for the MRT’s though.

Don't.

It's a stupid idea in the first place, being more about traffic and driving speed than personal challenge and causes no end of problems that are well documented.

Why not try a real challenge, the three peaks yacht race. You'll need a boat of course but you can hire one.

You sail from Barmouth to Carnarvon, then two of the crew run to Snowdon go up the mountain and back to the yacht. You then sail to Whitehaven and two runners go up Scarfell pike and back before you head up to Corpach and finish by running Ben Nevis. Now that's a real challenge none of your farting about in cars.

It could be either the same two runners or different crew members each time.

Why not just do a tough day long challenge walk instead?

The Welsh 3000s springs to mind - an excellent walk in it's own right over stunning mountains, with 12,000 foot of ascent and very little road walking.

Not for the faint hearted!
