Stunning pictures, Dave - what an incredible trip... Great write up too! It'd be hard to pick a favourite from all those fantastic photos and views but the ones of the iconic Half Dome jumped out at me, probably because I've read and re-read accounts of that nerve-wracking climb to its summit so many times.

Looks like you guys had a great holiday over there, good stuff!  O0 :)

Would that be the El Capitan wall?

Excellent photos, stunning place, not really jealous! I'll have a read of the TR a bit later.

I've not seen it called the El Capitan wall but the ascent of Half Dome requires the use of a temporary set of cables to get up the last 100m or so. It's one of the reasons why a permit is required to get to the summit so not to overcrowd the cableway.

I was thinking more of the sheer face. I know El Capitan is a much revered big wall climb somewhere in that region, and the front cliffs on the dome look very like it, but I've never seen it from the angle you captured if it is the same.

Inspirational photos - have added Yosemite to the ever lengthening list (think I'll need to win the Euromillions!) I admit to knowing very little about that area/those mountains etc and you have started my education.

The photo of the cable up Half Dome is interesting - certainly not a place to head for solitude on a day's walking!!!  :D -
I assume the descent is via a different route...

Yes, that's the cable route I've read so much about... I'm okay with heights and exposure to a large degree but the thought of that puts the wind up me!  :-\

Yosemite already on my list but i've bumped it a bit further up after those photo's ;D

I've seen pics/video before of the final climb up half dome but that pic, and some new video i've seen, really shows how steep it is.

Would defo make me nervous but hey ho, no risk no fun :)

Yosemite is one of my favouritest places I have ever visited.

I can highly recommend the Panorama trail, which goes from Glacier Point to the valley floor.

Also get a wilderness pass and the trails get very quiet very quickly!

El Capitan is on the opposite side of the valley to Half Dome and Glacier point.  Its the world famous climbing mecca of 900m of granite wall.
