This is a report of a walk which I did a few years ago. It was an A to B walk taking in Chimney Rock, Commedagh and Shanslieve. The descent of Commedagh to Donard Park via Shanslieve would be my favourite Mourne mountain descent. This is a demanding circuit taking in the second highest mountain in the Mournes. Starting from a car park 2.5 miles after Newcastle I used a good track in the direction of Chimney Rock, the first peak of the day. Once gaining the summit I ventured over marshy terrain to the Mourne wall. Climbing a stile I picked up the brandy pad to saddle Commedagh shares with Donard. Following the Mourne wall I reached Slieve Commedagh's summit. The ridge narrows as I made my descent via Shanslieve to Donard Park.
