Not sure if it will be the same but to find the Unit ID on my Etrex 20, which I assume will be the serial number, I found it by going into my "set up" menu, then clicking the "about" option.

I can't find a similar menu. The best I could get was a System menu which says it is running software version 3.50. But no other information.

I also found this link : http://www.gpstrend.com/can-find-serial-number-garmin/#etrex

It says for the ETrex (without numbers) "No serial number required". I presume this means it does not have one?!

An update here.

Thanks to the help of a couple of users here I've managed to get it fixed.

The software on the GPS needs to be updated to version 3.60, which has recently been released. This corrects the problem (or at least, it did for me).

Connect your GPS to the serial port. Go here and download the "WebUpdater" software : https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?productID=8705&tab=software

Then it should just be a case of starting up the software and with the GPS connected it should tell you there is an update and offer to install it.

That fixed it for me.
