Stanage Edge like I've never seen it before!!
« on: 22:03:33, 20/01/10 »
Right folks......Make a cuppa.....sit back.....and enjoy!! 8)

I took a guy on my Stanage Edge Circular walk back on January 7th and I feel it's THE best snowy walk I've done in the Peaks to date!

We started in Hathersage and after walking through the village, we were soon in the open countryside and walking through fairly deep snow up Baulk Lane, where Stanage Edge could be seen in the distance...

'The Warren', looking so different from the green of Spring/Summer...

The snowy scene near Green's House...

Our untrodden path towards Dennis Knoll, where we were in snow up to our thighs in places!...

Stanage Edge, a little closer...

At the bottom of Dennis Knoll...

The Dennis Knoll track below Stanage Edge, where the beauty of the recent snow became apparent...

As we got nearer to the top of the track where it joins Stanage Edge, the path was completely blocked by a huge snow drift...

With no way through, we followed a few footprints that were 'cut' off to the left...

Looking back down the track...

A deep path up, which someone had cut through the snow...

On Stanage Edge...

Looking back at the Edge...

Sunset as we head for home...

Hope you enjoyed looking as much as we enjoyed doing the walk! O0

Tracey :)

Bloody hell I bet that was hard work!

Looks fantastic though, never seen drifts or cornices like that! It shows how deep it was too with that path dug out!

Hi Granty,

Yes, it was fairly hard work at times :o   I've never walked in snow that deep before and I was quite achy the day after.  The experience of being there was well worth the effort!

Every time I look at these photos, I get tears in my eyes.  Daft, I know......but it's a walk that I'll remember for a very long time.
I just feel very lucky to have seen it looking so incredibly beautiful 8)

Thank you all for your great comments.  I really appreciate it.

Tracey. :)

Absolutely amazing pics - thanks for taking the time to put up so many  O0  - the drifts are unbelievable. You really benefitted from being so soon after the BIG snow - but I can imagine how much effort it took!

These are stunning pics.  Thanks.  I would never have thought you would get cornices like that on Stanage Edge.  Last time I saw that size of cornice was on Lochnagar.
