NYM Winter Walk ideas
« on: 13:35:47, 13/11/19 »
Winter walking and camping season approaches.

Any good one or two day walking ideas around the North York Moors? The north moors '3 peaks' is a favourite for a long one day walk- Highcliff Nab, Roseberry Topping and Captain Cooks Monument.

Anyone have any good 2 day walk ideas? Ideally with a pub in the middle  ;D ;D ;D

Do you mean something like starting and finishing at the Lion Inn?  O0

Sections of the Cleveland Way or the Esk Valley walk?  Both easily accessible by public transport.

... you could "base yourself" at a pub, catch the bus/train to the start of your day's walk, and walk back to the pub, then do the same in the opposite direction the next day  O0

Anything involving the Lion Inn is usually good  ;D  A north-south or vice versa walk in the NYM is perfect for a night in the Lion actually, I did that a couple of years ago from Guisborough to Kirkby Moorside. Highly recommend it.

Despite being brought up right there, i have never actually walked the Cleveland Way completely. The North east coast is a favourite though...can be brutal this time of year however...

Any good walking ideas around Dalby/Cropton forest way?

Hole of Horcum.

Bridestones.

Levisham Moor.

Fylingdales.

Dalby and Cropton Forests are too commercialised (in my opinion).  Plus there's the £9 road toll ....

Anywhere on the coast path.

Further west - Hawnby Bumps.

For the North Yorkshire walks you could split the Lyke wake walk up in two parts. Start osmotherley then you can walk to lion inn stay there. Then continue from lion inn to the coast. Even though its winter paths are good I walked it last week.
