SWCP Closure
« on: 17:29:03, 31/10/16 »
Just found out the hard way that the SWCP between Crow Point and Velator Quay is closed. Apparently a sink hole has opened up in the path. There is an inland diversion via PROW. The signs say it should reopen on 12 Nov but there were no signs of activity when I passed the ends of the closure.

Is that the bit of the SWCP that runs round the estuary side of Horsey Island?
So many paths yet to walk, so little time left

That's the spot.  The sinkhole is right by the bridge over the sluice and there appears to be no easy way of circumnavigating it.  The path is very firmly closed.  At high tide apparently it changes from a sinkhole to a whirlpool!

The diversion is along the bank on the other side of the island.

Further to this closure.  I was walking this section of the SWCP again today (2/1/17) and the path is still closed and, according to the signs, it will now remain so until 1/6/17. Rumour is that there is no money available to repair it. A diversion is in place along the bank by the toll road on the other side of Horsey Island.

Update on this closure. There was an item on the local news today, 9/01/18.  The path is still closed and the diversion remains in place. The landowner has spent £3000 trying to fix it. The Environment Agency will not help as no houses are at risk so the area is slowly being reclaimed by the sea.
