Generator (for wild camping)

Ugh! Just the sort of thing that I go wild camping to escape!

Don't get me wrong, the idea of hiring a teardrop caravan has it's appeal, but a generator - as popular as a rattlesnake in a lucky dip :)

Hallo everyone - new Snowdonia hostel

We've just opened a hostel in Snowdonia in the wonderful Ogwen Valley with views of Tryfan and the Glyders. We can sleep up to 26 people in comfortable accommodation with linen provided. You can walk, hike, climb or bike from the door and we have parking for 8-10 cars. A short walk takes you to a river to swim in. From £20 a night. We are surrounded by most of the Welsh Three Thousands. And there are lots of lovely walks away from the crowds on Snowdon.

Preferably book via our website snowdoniamountainhostel.com where you can get more info and pics.
Thanks for reading this.

Shetland camping Bods. http://camping-bods.co.uk/index.asp
They are basically posh Bothies that you pre book.
You could have a very cheap walking holiday in Shetland if you booked one of these each night.
or you could alternate a night in a Bod and a night or 2 camping in between.
I used the Fetlar one for 2 nights when I was walking the coastline.
I shared it with one night with Lucy Wood who had just completed a LOJG walk and then hired a car to visit Orkney and Shetland. We were luck that night in that there was a clear sky and I could show her the Northern Lights faintly on the horizon and some shooting stars and many satellites passing overhead.
The next night I shared with a Lady who had cycled from South of England. She was heading back down the West coast of Scotland then Ireland back to a Birthday party in Weymouth.
The Bods are great and have an interesting History.
It would certainly help balance the price of the Ferry.

I think we could turn this topic to the cheap/reliable and self-contained places which you have stayed during past year.

Let us attempt to create a useful list of places Forum members have found favourable to get a cheap roof over their heads.

Think budget b&bs, independant hostels, bunkbarns, guest houses and cheap hotels.

I would suggest the following format:

- Name of Place and brief description of its nature (see above rough categories).
- Location and contact details (be succinct).
- Price pppn.
- Pre-book or turn up?
- Facilites, heating? hot water? showers? (be succinct).

Perhaps we'll start by breaking the country down into the same sections as the Forum does, we can mutate it by general agreement to make it more useful as it develops.
Thank you so much!

This thread may need revitalising. I wonder how many of these places survived Covid?

I'll restart by mentioning the hostel at Earby. Great value, wonderful host. Info on the www.

You appear to be sending us a 'morse code' type of message. What is it?

I'm getting old, I can't remember why I wrote 'You appear to be sending us a 'morse code' type of message. What is it?' or did I just type it to the wrong topic? Sorry about that.

After my hiking trips this year, I can only conclude that the only reliable 'Cheap and Reliable' accommodation is to wild camp in a tent or bivvy.

I know I managed to get 2 x £5 nights on a site in Tavistock but I'm sure that was just a fluke.

There's a site I check before I head to the Lake District if it's of interest.  If you search for Lake District Offers it comes up around page one.  (it's actually called Lake District Offers) - It collates all those deal sites, etc.. so you get them cheaper where available and some of the offers include dinner too.

There's a good few current offers now we're in the Autumn / Winter period..  :)
