Does anyone know where in the UK I took this picture? I expect that not many of you have been here.
-
I tried to be a smart ass and look up the EXIF location data on Flickr but of course you used a real camera so it wasn't present.
Scotland? :D
-
It is Scotland, but I was looking for a more precise location.
-
Is that skye in the distance?
-
Is that skye in the distance?
You are correct. O0 Getting close.
-
You, Sir, are a fiend! :)
-
Rona.
-
Rona.
You are correct sir. I have been there a few times over the last 10 years. It is a lovely calm place with great views and some interesting walks. The venison from the warden is the best I have ever eaten.
-
It really strikes me as unlikely and odd you'd both have been to the same remote location but if anyone was going to know it, I'd have backed richardh1905.
-
Rona.
Google is my friend. ;D
-
I thought richardh1905 might get this, as he has posted several times about Shieldaig and Applecross, which are in the vicinity.
-
Not been there actually, but the shore looked very 'West Coast of Scotland", and the shape of the inlet is rather distinctive. The presence of trees narrowed it down more (ruled out the Western Isles, for example), but the cliffs and hills in the background puzzled me somewhat - not typical for the Highlands. To be honest, I might not have found it had BuzyG not mentioned Skye.
I presume that if the shot had been taken from a bit higher up, the Cuillin might have been visible to the left of the distant hill?

Not my photo, but looks rather like Sgurr nan Gillean in the background.
-

Most remote spot I have been to in Britain is Sule Skerry - in fact I have been lucky enough to spend several nights there in total.
-
How on earth did you narrow it down to Rona? Did you view many places? I resolved the Flickr URL you posted to the original (https://www.flickr.com/photos/r36ariadne/2277775321/) and it does say Acarseid Mor, South Rona but I've no idea how (or if) you got there.

I looked it up, that really is miles away.

I think you are right about the view from higher up. I also have a colour photo from western side of Arcasaid Mhor (big harbour).

Map reading, Rob (and no I am not being facetious). ;)
I only started looking at online pictures to confirm that I was right - once I had spotted the inlet on the 1:50,000 OS map I knew that I had it.
-
Looked in there once, maybe thirty years ago while kayaking around the island. Midgy as hell, we fled up the coast to a windier place. The stone church on the east coast is also worth a visit.
Looks very different from water level.
-

Never thought of trying that, I've been learning about navigation and map reading for hours. Unless there's a great surprise waiting for me further in this tome what I don't know I don't know is shrinking - my map reading isn't too terrible - little bit of improvement relating to visualising contour gradient but haven't learned much else about maps.
Plenty to learn about navigation though. I've resisted the urge to read it all so as not to overload my brain. Will be practicing it in 4 sessions like the book says which should stand me in good stead. Having trouble selecting a good area to practice though. I expect somewhere flat(ish) with plenty of linear features would be ideal or do you think otherwise?
-
If you have some idea in the first place. Then you can find places on Google.
Firstly the scene looks Scottish. Then there is the lighting. Though a dull day the sun is clearly in front of the camera. So the west coast. There is a short stretch of water In front of the island in the distance. So inner Hebrides. Mull or Skye most likely. My best guess skye
Then once the general area is confirmed. If you have the patience you can find the view on Google earth and bing OS view. Or simply try a few more educated guesses to narrow it down.
-
Thanks BuzyG and Richard for clearing up how you found it.
-
Sorry. I'm having a compulsive urge to hijack your topic Bigfoot Mike with a "where is it?" pic of my own....

Ignore the black dot on the right, it's most likely sheep poo on the lense after I dropped my camera.
I am fairly certain there is one person who will know where this is if that person reads this topic.
-
One more post about Bigfoot_Mike's photo (sorry Mel). I'm very impressed you found that on the map Richard I think I've found it with various cheats and a little bit of map reading is it Rona Lodge in the photo at NG6172457087?
-
Rob, that is Rona Lodge. Here you can buy the special Rona stamps and Rona venison.
-
Is the sheep poo a clue, Mel?

Darn, no idea where this could be, but I am guessing the 'one person who will know' is Sunnydale :D
Looks as though you had a grand day Mel 8)
-
.. a "where is it?" pic of my own....
Hmm- the scarring along the shores suggest a reservoir, and that deep ravine with the cairn topped rounded hill behind is quite a feature - I'm guessing southern Pennines, but I cannot pin it down.
-
The tree in the foreground suggests possibly looking southish?
-
Balderhead Reservoir, south of Middleton in Teesdale.
I was wrong about the Southern Pennines.
-
If you are right that would be Shacklesborough then. Looks like a small table mountain from a distance. The route off comes down to the right of that gully http://www.haroldstreet.org.uk/routes/download/?walk=1838 (http://www.haroldstreet.org.uk/routes/download/?walk=1838) Picture taken from the car park?
-
The tree in the foreground suggests possibly looking southish?
What about it suggested that?
Balderhead Reservoir, south of Middleton in Teesdale.
I was wrong about the Southern Pennines.
How do you do it? I tried to find it on the map using this information and it kinda looks like around about NY9102718921 but I can't see the trees in the photo that should be by Blea Gill? How far am I out?
-
If it is - it is one of the routes I suggested to you.
In areas where there is a strong wind, trees grow smaller on the upwind side. The prevailing winds are westerly so west is to the right. Should be in your navigation book.
-
If it is - it is one of the routes I suggested to you.

It mentioned directional wind but didn't tell me the prevailing wind direction. The example in the book was much more obviously bent by wind, it didn't point out that they grow smaller on the upwind side.
-
How do you do it?
The scarring along the shores suggested a reservoir, and it looked like the Pennines rather than the Lakes - open rounded hillsides rather than craggy.
So I used an online OS map and quickly panned through likely spots at 1:50,000 scale. As I said, the gully is quite a feature, as is the rounded hilltop with a cairn or trig point on top - this is in line with the gully (another clue). The lack of woods helps eliminate many possibilities, as does the presence of the wall running parallel to the gully. As soon as I saw Balderhead on the map I thought that it was a contender, so I had a quick look at a satellite image - the wall was there where it should be, and I could even spot the trees to the left of the photo! A quick search for images of Balderhead Reservoir provided confirmation.
Edit - the 1:50000 map does show conifers on the western side of the gully - these must have been clear felled some years ago, as they are certainly not present on the satellite imagery - or the photo!
Edit 2 - this image clinched it - https://binged.it/2IRn1mS (https://binged.it/2IRn1mS)
-
Years of experience and acquired knowledge.
There I fixed your explanation. Actually your explanation was quite good. In ViewRanger the large scale OS mapping shows trees too, must be out of date. I've ordered a paper map of this area just waiting on the postman.
Edited for grammar.

Richard you need to get out more, or should that be less.

I think that you are being very sneaky ;) .
Anyway, I'm going to pass on this one - as BuzyG implies, I spend far too much time pouring over maps!

Where is this one taken from?
That hill looks very distinctive - is it on the Scoraig peninsula - which would put you on or near the Summer Isles?

Well done richard and ninthace (for correctly identifying my pic).
No idea about where the other pics are but fantastic images, all of them O0

The Old Man of the Merrick in the Southern Uplands...................
Doesn't look anything like me.
My surname is Merrick.
-
Also known as The Grey Man of Merrick as discussed here, (http://www.walkingforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=13385.msg438665#msg438665)June 2015. In the Galloway forest, not very like John major either.
-
Well Colin?

'tis indeed the Grey Man of the Merrick.
As an aside, I thought I deleted all my photobucket pics so I don't know how that's still showing in the other thread

I’m afraid not this time Richard.

Damn, I would like to play but the only one I've recognised is Rona - sailed in there for the night some years ago. Beautiful just.

Reasonably warm, as it was one the day I took the picture. I am surprised someone didn’t suggest a Caribbean location :)

Mellon Udrigle.

Mellon Udrigle.
Correct again Richard O0
-
Got there in the end!
Goodness knows I've sailed past that hill often enough on the Stornoway ferry. God's own country, as far as I am concerned.
-
I will have to try something more tricky next time - perhaps not on the west coast of Scotland.
-
Correct again Richard O0
He's very good at that. Pity they don't do a practical version of Mastermind, would make good TV. I thought Rona was impressive but given enough time I might have found that with Skye as a clue. Had a glance at Mellon Udrigle and can't see those distant lands at all - looks like open sea on the beach next door! Let alone get it from somewhere in the UK!
What's a rough grid reference of the location?
-
NG 8895 9580 OS Explorer 434.
The beach is a bit different, being one of the few east facing beaches on the west coast.

In that case, from Rydal Head (Link Hause?), between Fairfield and Hart Crag - (I keep feeling that is Brothers Water in the distance).
I came in early to do some work this morning ;D

Correct!
Hart Crag is to the right of the picture, and you can see High Street in the distance.

More like Snowdonia I think, if Snowdon summit could conceivable be as clean as that NNE possibly looking across the Glyders to Idwal gap. But it is a long time since I was there.
-
BWW is on the right lines. But not Snowdon.
-
I think that you are on the summit of Elidir Fawr, looking eastwards towards the Ogwen valley.
Foel Goch is the smaller hill in the foreground, Pen yr ole wen and Carnedd Dafydd to the left, the shoulder of Tryfan to the right, Gallt yr Ogof cliffs beyond.
Beautiful photo, by the way.
-
Thanks Richard, though it's horribly over-exposed, and spot on for the location (the most underrated of the Welsh 3000s in my opinion) - back to you!
-
Someone else please take a turn - I've got a curry to attend to right now. :smiley6600:
-
Not me I'm afraid - I am cooking paella tonight and buying Spanish beer and wine to go with it - it's a tradition in the red side of the pdstsp household that we eat and drink the food and beverages of the home nation of our European Cup adversaries. It doesn't always work (the Sangria for last season's final, apparently, had French brandy in it - so that got the blame), but we can't stop, as we'd end up blaming ourselves. It's also a good excuse to have a midweek blow out. And the two nights against Munich were hard going - there's only so much sausage and cabbage a man can take.
-
This should not take long

O0 I said this one was easy. There are quite a few clues.
I was feeling quite chuffed. I have never been there, Mull was the furthest I have been on that coast. It was in 1974, the year of the Great Drought. We went home because it would not stop raining! Got home to find the lawn has turned brown and blown away.

I didn’t think it would be found quite as quickly and wasn’t expecting a grid reference. The Skye skyline does limit where I could have been, but if you haven’t been that far north that may not have helped.

I decided it was probably Scottish west coast and the off shore islands limited which bit of coast to some extent. Then I worked down the coast looking for likely lochs with a house in a wood and road to the N and a peninsula cutting the loch to the E of the house. Found a likely candidate and noticed the road went past the E end of the loch and there was a lay-by in about the right place for a picture. Streetview clinched it.

I have a hunch that the peak is Ben Lomond taken from somewhere in the Forth valley.
If so, a very sneaky shot! :)
-
I think I got you this time Richard. You did get the country right and there is a Ben in the name. This maybe more difficult than some of my previous pictures. I will give you a clue - this is not a Munro.
-
I can't help feeling that I've seen that mountain profile somewhere.
-
You might well have seen the profile. It is quite distinctive. The land around the mountain is quite flat and it can be seen for miles around
-
Bennachie from somewhere to the south? It is quite a distinctive top.

I think you may have that one. The view from the visitors center matches perfectly.

-
Bennachie from somewhere to the south? It is quite a distinctive top.
Right again Richard. The right hand summit is Mither Tap. The photograph is taken from the Howe of Alford and is a view from the south. Although Bennachie is not particularly high (Oxen Craig, the highest peak is 528m) it stands out from the surrounding countryside and can be seen from a long way. The views from the summit are extensive. There are many paths and several summits, a waterfall and history back to the Bronze Age.
-
It is a hill that I had been planning to climb whilst on one of my regular training courses in Aberdeen - but redundancy and early retirement put paid to that. Can't complain though - retirement is great!
-
I think you may have that one. The view from the visitors center matches perfectly.
http://www.bennachievisitorcentre.org.uk/whatson.html (http://www.bennachievisitorcentre.org.uk/whatson.html)
The main route from the visitor centre to Mither Tap is the busiest and least interesting in my view. The Rowan Tree and Back O’ Bennachie car parks are far better starting points. Hermit Seat and Watch Craig at the western end of the range are much quieter.
You don’t get that view from the visitor centre, which is situated in woods to the east of Mither Tap.
-

I mearly looked at the pictures on the visitors center website, after Richard got it. Looks very similar. Slight difference a village is in shot from there.

Correction: I should have said that everybody should go to the Bennachie Centre and climb Mither Tap from there. The other end of the range is desolate and silent and you will only find grumpy walkers there that want to be alone ;D .

A new one to identify for Friday.
-
I spy columnar basalt. Shiants?
-
Kilt rock?
-
Richardh, how do you do this every time? Ok, which one of the Shiants?
-
Read a book about the man who owned the Shiant Islands some years ago, and I think that they featured on a TV program too. The columnar basalt is very distinctive, and is not that common. Fingal's Cave and Kilt Rock are the most well known examples, but it didn't look like them. There's also an outcrop on the south side of Arthur's Seat.
No idea exactly which island though - I could go trawling through loads of photos online to find out - but I'm not going to. :)
-
Skye
-
The island is Eilean an Taighe (house island), which is joined to Garbh Eilean (rough island) by a rocky isthmus. There are over 100,000 puffins in the Shiants, mostly nesting on Garbh Eilean. I walked from the isthmus up to the top of Eilean an Taighe, but saw no puffins there, only Great Skuas. The number of sea birds here has to be seen to be believed and the sky turns black with birds when a sea eagle flies overhead.

He's got a device like the Marauders Map from Harry Potter but it covers the UK instead of Hogwarts and in addition to locating people it shows you locations when you throw photos at it.

This photo has less obvious identifying features. Perhaps others will have as much chance as richardh1905 with this one, but there again.......
-
I'll pass on this one, Mike. The Shiant Islands look like a special place.
One of my visits to Sule Skerry coincided with the puffin nesting season - a few around in the daytime but most were in their burrows sitting on their eggs. But in the evening, the partners would come in after a day's fishing at sea - tens of thousands of puffins in the air, circling around the lighthouse. There was an outer circle of birds going in one direction, and remarkably, those closer to the light were flying the opposite way around it. A really stunning sight in the twilight, made more special by the six beams of the lighthouse cutting through the mist that had delayed our departure. And strangely, they hardly made a sound - only the fluttering of tens of thousands of wings. One of the most remarkable things that I have seen in my life.

A new one for you.

It's been on TV recently. Where is it and what is it?
-
Well it's a Viking boatyard ...... Isle of Syke?

I think you are right, somewhere near the bottom left hand corner of the island.

Loch na h-Airde on Skye's Rubh an Dunain peninsula?

Some interesting observations about the site here...

That's the one.

This photo has less obvious identifying features. Perhaps others will have as much chance as richardh1905 with this one, but there again.......
An additional clue. This creature was near the start of this relatively short walk. You might often see one of these there.

3rd clue. The rocks in the first photo can be seen in this picture, if you look closely.

Absolutely no idea, but it looks a stunning place and I'll be watching for the answer.
-
I see sea weed.
-
I met that deer on the Isle of Arran :) . Perhaps some pet picker took it for a ride and then dumped it. :D
-
This is not an island and the deer is not a pet, but there is an enclosure. There is a connection to the sea, but this is not the sea. I am sure there will be others on the forum who have walked or visited here.
-
So where is it then?
-
That is for us to guess!
-
guess this has died a death................ :-[
-
Another clue to location, taken from a different view point. We have already established this is on the mainland and connected to the sea. There are obviously some mountains in the area. I do have some more pictures, but that would make it too easy. I am pretty sure several regulars of the forum will have been here.

Someone buy that man a drink and post up the next one. O0

Beinn Liath Mhor and Sgorr Ruadh from somewhere near Torridon House on the north shore of Upper Loch Torridon.
-
I knew I could rely on you Richard. The original picture was taken near Torridon Stores at the end of a shortish flat walk from the car park at the Torridon visitor centre. There are often red deer near the start of the walk and there are bird hides to the left near the loch side.

Is it no Richard's turn?

Morar beach looking across to Rum (Rhum) by the way.................
-
Dun Caan on Raasay to the right, Skye hills (Red Cuillin) in the distance - I would say Sand beach, just north of Applecross.
-
Is it no Richard's turn?
I've got lots of photos of places that nobody would know in Orkney - but that would hardly be fun, so I'm quite happy for others to post.
-
I accept the offer - another easy one I hope

Richard or Buzy have it. Said it was easy. Over to either of you.

Go on then I'll have a go. If any one gets this from the first photo I'll be imprest.

Ok officially imprest with your detective work. It is indeed Beardown tors. One of my favourite evening summer walks around the edge of the range. Gorgeous ancient oak wood on the other side of the leat.

It is not Abersoch I am afraid.

I've not been to the Llyn peninsular for years but I immediately thought of it when I saw the picture.

Wrong country for this one.

Troon. Let's hope I got the country right at least.

You have the correct country and have selected somewhere on the coast. So, you are getting closer.

Yes, the west coast is correct.

Not the Isle of Aran in the distance then?
-
Not the Isle of Aran in the distance then?
An island, but not Arran.
-
It's a pity midweekmountain isn't active here (as he used to be) - I'm sure he'd recognise a few of these more outlandish locations O0
-
Snowdonia from Newborough Warren?
If that is it I will have to take a rain check as I may be out of touch for a few days, it will be open for another to pick up.
-
Not Snowdonia I’m afraid. BuzyG has already established we are on the west coast of Scotland, looking out at an island that is not Arran.
-
Red Cuillin again, this time from Applecross beach?
-
Red Cuillin again, this time from Applecross beach?
I thought you would get this one Richard. You are again correct. O0 O0
-
Same mountain profile as your previous photo, Mike. :)
Surprised that others didn't spot that. :D
-
I thought I was giving people a good chance with this one, but you were the only one to spot it Richard.
-
Same mountain profile as your previous photo, Mike. :)
Surprised that others didn't spot that. :D
I did, first place I looked as soon as the photo was posted up. Just thought there was no way any one would post up from the same spot again so went looking else where. >:(
That'll teach me.

It is not the same spot, but a few miles further along the road from Shieldaig. There are several interesting walks in the area, with a number starting within the grounds of Applecross House, which has a walled garden and a restaurant that is usually quieter then the nearby Applecross Inn.
-
Come on then Richard, time for another. Enjoying this thread immensley. O0
Also spending hours of my life roaming Google Earth for locations. Easier than walking. ;D
-
Hopefully I am encouraging some forum members to plan a few walks on the west coast of Scotland.

No point - we've seen it all now ;)
Well perhaps not all..............

So am I. Time that I took a turn. :)
Name the mountain in the centre of the picture.

Sgurr a Mhaim at the head of Glen Nevis with Stob Bhan on the right...........

Correct of course Sparnel. A very distinctive hill with the band of quartzite cutting across the upper slopes.

Carry on again Richard.........I don't have a site where I store photos.........

Can I offer an image for identification? Obviously once Owen's last one has been located! And indeed if the person who correctly identified it is ok with me jumping in!

I don’t think there are any rules on who can post next. I have posted several pictures in a row previously.
-
Owen, is this one in the Lake District or am I completely off beam? It definitely seems familiar to me, but it is quite a while since I have been in the area.
-
Not in England.

Post just as soon as we're done with Owen's photo, petrolhead.

@ Owen
East ridge of Beinn Fhada, around the 825m spot height, looking down Glen Affric - Loch Affric and the other one with the long name in the distance.
Over to you, Petrolhead. :)

Shouldn’t this thread be changed to “where (in Scotland) is this? :D

There's so much interesting wild country in Scotland! And I suppose everyone would get the likes of Skiddaw or Snowdon.
And thanks to the wonders of the internet, anyone can have a go just by map reading and then searching for images to confirm. :)

Hi guys. So, I know where I was standing when I took it, and in which direction I was facing. Just not exactly what I'm looking at...

Sun rise on Mars. O0

Am I missing something here ??? Ah there it is, - took a long time to load.
No idea but very beautiful.

It took a long time to load for me, too. And it is very beautiful.
Just to clarify before I start, Petrolhead, is this in the UK?
-
Is the big hill Great Gable? Very lovely wherever it is.
-
Shouldn’t this thread be changed to “where (in Scotland) is this? :D
I went digital just after I moved to Scotland, most of my photos of England and Wales are on slides in a box under the stairs. Maybe I should go through them and scan some onto the computer.
-
Likewise, Owen. Must get some scanned.
-
Sun rise on Mars. O0
Ha haa! I have another photo taken about 20 minutes after this and the sky looks heavenly. Completely different!

It took a long time to load for me, too. And it is very beautiful.

Yes mate. It's in the UK.

Nope! But thank you :)

Tinypic is running REALLY slowly at the moment for some reason.
Thanks a lot Jac :)

Looks like Slioch across Loch Maree

I thought of Slioch but the angles look all wrong for Loch Maree.
Edit - I think that you are right, Brandywell, but there appear to be a lot of lower hills in the foreground.

You guys are INCREDIBLE!!!
Blown away. Don't know how you do it!!!
Round of applause.
I was actually about 17 miles away from the mountain when the shot was taken, standing at the standard "photographer's viewpoint" at the Quiraing. I remember taking it and thinking it had nothing really that could identify it. Then I immediately thought of this thread.
And it took you about 30 seconds!
:D
Bravo!

An easy one for you. Sorry still Scotland.

Lovely photo[/color]
Is that a scanned slide, on an ordinary scanner, Owen?
-
It's a scanned slide.
-
Are you on Great Gable, looking SE over a mist filled Wasdale?
I'm a bit puzzled by the apparent hills in the distance, but I'm assuming that these are in fact clouds. Unless it is a VERY clear day!
-
No, it's in Scotland.
-
I should read your post more carefully - you do say "Sorry still Scotland"!
-
The cloud inversion makes this quite difficult. Is this a view from Ben Nevis?
-
No not Ben Nevis.
-
I will have a wee punt at this....looking out across the southern end of the Lairig Ghru to see a bit of Carn a'Mhain and the Corbett Sgurr Mor.
-
Yes, taken from the summit of Braeriach at dusk.
-
It is much easier to set a challenge than to answer one.
-
Yes, indeed.
-
Do you have a challenge for us vizzavona?
-
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1024x768q90/924/riggGd.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/poriggGdj)
The hill on the left is Ben Macdui, the actual summit is out of shot. The one on the right is Cairn Toul. Connected to Ben Macdui by the saddle is Carn a Mhain, Sgor Mor is the flat thing to the right. The hills on the horizon Richard thought were clouds is Lochnagar to the left and the White Mount/Glenshee hills to the right.
-
Ah, I see that it is Lochnagar now.
I had convinced myself that it was Scafell on the left, Illgill Head beyond, and Kirk Fell on the right, and chose to ignore the evidence of the 'clouds'. Or the lack of Yewbarrow.
-
The bealach between the two hills across the Lairig threw me at first....not nearly high enough for the gap between Macdui and Carn a'Mhain...then I recalled a bike ride from Linn of Dee to reach the Corbett Sgurr Mor. It then all fitted in.
I'm not signed up to one of the image sharing sites so have no way of sending a single image to the Forum. My only way to communicate is by using the Google blog thing.
Maybe I should hand over the baton to someone else to continue the 'Where is this?'
I had a look at the Image Shack site....uploaded an image but I couldn't work out how to get it to appear on here.
-
Here's a nice easy one to keep things moving along. :)

Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall near Hartland Quay? I think you might have posted this on a previous thread, which made it easier to find.
I did indeed. But I didn't give the exact location. Of course you have it spot on Mike. Who's next.
-
How about this? What bodies of water and mountains can you see?
-
Above Loch Kishorn looking east, Loch Carron in the distance. The flat topped mountain on the far left is Meall Chearn Dearg.
Edit - no I think I have the place where you took the photo wrong.
-
You are somewhere up above Torridon House, maybe the lower slopes of Beinn Alligin, it is Meall Chearn Deag far left. The mountain centre left will be Beinn Damh. Shieldaig to the right.
My final answer.
-
You are correct again Richard. I thought you might get this one. For everyone else, Upper Loch Torridon is the first body of water and Loch Damh the other.

What about this? Where am I and what am I looking at?

Is that A Bothy in the fore ground?
I’m not sure, but it is more likely a cattle shed. This picture is not actually from a walk, it shows somewhere where you can walk.

Time for an easier one Mike. Snapped this one today.

As there is a common factor in the previous posts I wondered if anyone can spot the significance of this photo.
(https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48501253067_5bcd505bdf_c.jpg) (http://)P1060118 (https://flic.kr/p/2gTTAMa) by Barewirewalker (https://www.flickr.com/photos/barewirewalker/), on Flickr
The stack caught my eye, but I did not realize at the time of composing the picture that there was something far more significant is in the view finder.
