I decided that I needed to get motivated so organised my tarp and bivvy and slept out in my garden last night. It was a bit breezy but I was fine and enjoyed it.

The taller pole is a Tarp Pole, I managed to buy it online for £7,50 including postage, the lower one is one of my Pacerpoles hiking sticks. I like to keep the other one by the side of me, in case I have to get up in the night.

I have two other layouts but I never know exactly which one I'll use until I stop for the night.

Been considering this myself then I think it's pointless, then I consider it again.
It's just testing our gear right?

I saw an interview with his proud mum.  She said it was a bit of a chore to go out in her dressing gown to say goodnight each evening but if he could make the effort. it was the least she could do and at least she didn't have to spend the night out there too.

Great stuff, gwm. I love camping out in our modest garden from time to time - the owls in the night, dawn chorus, wind in the trees, even the patter of rain on the flysheet make me feel close to nature; good for the soul. And it is good to get well practiced at pitching the tent etc.

If my wife had her way I'd be sleeping in the garden every night too  :(

I can assure you that my wife didn't come out to me to say goodnight!  :)

I particularly like that 20 minutes when the tawny owls give way to the blackbirds.

Beautiful set up, Gunwharfman. My garden's too blasted steep to do this.

I envy you lot the dawn chorus. I seem to live slap bang in the middle of jackdaw Mecca, and those raucous gits don't have a decent tune in em. Plus 50 yards away there's a rookery, say no more. This time of year I'm often leaning out the bedroom window at dawn firing a water pistol up and round at the jackoes clattering and squawking on my roof. I get more of a lie in wild camping.

Ah yes, the screaming of motor bikes, cars slapping off a loose manhole cover, police or ambulance sirens hurtling through the traffic lights. Magpies screaming as they rob eggs from a nest, the kakkaking iof peregrines as they behead a bluetit and swish off with the remainder to feed their young, the toppling and scraffling of foxes in the waste bin opposite to get their feed if KFC leftovers. (not so often since lockdown)

Mmm, the dawn chorus in a town centre. No wonder I miss North Northumberland.
Too little, too late, too bad......

Or in GWM's case - a steady low throb from all the shipping in the Solent punctuated by the screaming of gulls and the roar of the early Hovercraft pulling up on Southsea beach.  ;)

Yes, that sounds like my garden.

I saw this today, if they charge the right price this is what I like, except the one that wants £20 for a pitch. If I plan to go anywhere near I might check if they will expect less if I go there with a one-man tent?

Yes, that sounds like my garden.

TBH I had help.  My first married quarter as in Kings Terrace in Southsea and my last quarter, some 30 years later was just across the water in Alvercliffe Drive, Alverstoke.  If you slept with the windows open, all you coiuld hear was the rumble of shipping.
