With another sunny week-end in the Mournes, Saturday's walk saw me take in two of the higher summits, Slieve Bernagh and Meelmore. Starting from Meelmore lodge car park I made my way to the Hares Gap via the Trassey track. Turning right, I followed the course of the Mourne wall to the summit of Bernagh. Bernagh is the 4th highest mountain in the Mournes and is very recognizable from afar with its twin peaks. I descended the western side of the mountain to the colony Bernagh shares with Meelmore. The walk became a lot rockier underfoot as I made my way to Slieve Meelmore's summit. Meelmore is the 7th highest in the range. I descended off the beaten track in between the Happy valley and Trassey track. The descent was the first and will be the last time ;D  as the foot trail peters out to craggy rock faces which required careful negotiation. I was glad when I eventually reached the Mourne way back to Meelmore lodge where I enjoyed a coffee in the cafe. Total distance was nearly 9 km.
