We got up late on Sunday, again
It was sunny, cold and very windy. Too late to get into the Lakes so we got the bus into Carlisle. I had to pick up a book from Waterstones and then we went into Bitts Park.
St George statue in Hardwicke Circus
Hardwicke Circus is a roundabout with a sunken underpass, seen in the photo.
Bitts Park
Lovely at this time of the year too. We saw signs of Spring, blossom on the trees and buds sprouting.
Eden Bridge from Bitts Park
Squeaky had a good run about on the field, running with the other dogs, including some other whippets.
Snowdrops!
Spring is defo on the way then.
Crocuses have flowered too
I googled the plural version of crocus. Crocuses doesn't seem right to me. You can use it though along with Croci if you want! I prefer Croci
We crossed the river and went into Rickerby Park. We walked up to the War Memorial hoping to find shelter form the wind for lunch. Not a chance so we walked over to Carlisle's Stone Henge.
The stones in Rickerby Park
No shelter here either.
Penrith Sandstone
We found a little more shelter beside the river bank; by no means perfect but we were ready for some lunch. We ate quickly as we were getting cold.
View eastward toward the North Pennines
The visibility was excellent today, we could see for miles. We headed east along the riverside path back home
Skiddaw seen beyond the telephone mast in Carlisle
This shot is a bit of an optical illusion. Skiddaw must be at least 20 miles away.
The view of the North Pennines near where I live
Not a bad view
Looking at Scotland in the distance from the A69
This is the third time we've done a similar walk from Carlisle in the last few weeks. We are impatient for the warmer weather to come so can get out wild camping. Our route was Carlisle - Bitts Park - Rickerby Park - War Memorial - "Stone Henge" - Stony Holme Golf Course - Riverside footpath - Home 11km 30m ascent.
