TR - Forest of Dean sculpture trail
« on: 09:21:43, 30/07/20 »
Mrs R and I had walked round the Forest of Dean sculpture trail before, though it was at least 10 years ago. Then it was the end of October and it was very misty and quiet. At the end of July, by contrast, a lot of other people were also there.

Some of the sculptures are a bit strange but my favorites were
Echo - Annie Cattrell

Cone and Vessel - Peter Randall-Page

Iron Road - Keir Smith

Fire and Water Boats - David Nash

Though quite possibly the most impressive thing was not one of the sculptures but this ancient tree which looked like something out of Harry Potter.

Lots of ferns under the trees including the Hard Fern or Blechnum Spicant as fernman and I call it.

It would have made for a much more relaxing walk if there were less people there but I can't complain about other people going to somewhere that I have also decided to go.

Great photos Ridge, and while I admit that sculpture trails are not really my thing, that old tree is something else!

Oi, I thought you knew nothing about ferns!

That was before my fern-shaming, 2 days later I'm an expert.  ;)
Seriously, I saw the hard fern didn't know what it was so took a pic and looked it up when I got home. I'll never remember the latin name but I have just doubled my fern knowledge.

Oooh, strange and unusual things.  Love them all.  That tree needs to be officially part of the sculpture trail though.

The tree was amazing.
Shame they had to have a sign next to it asking people not to carve their initials on it or hammer in coins.

Randall Page is our local sculptor - hadn't realised he had some in the Forest of Dean.

And I too love the ancient tree :)
So many paths yet to walk, so little time left

I'd love to find something similar in a wood.
