Scotland Photos
« on: 22:10:43, 16/10/16 »
Last week, I did a 5 day motorcycling tour of Scotland in mostly beautiful sunshine. I wasn't going to post anything on here as it wasn't a walking tour, but as some interest has been shown in seeing some of the photos I took, here's a few. You'll have to bear with me on names and exact locations in some instances, and forgive me if I've got some wrong  :-[

Looking across the sound to Jura from Kintyre western shore:

Arran from Kintyre eastern shore:

Five Sisters of Kintail:

A view from Gairloch harbour:

From near to Gairloch I think:

A panorama of peaks:

A bit further north:

Loch Broom at Ullapool:

Stac Pollaidh:

Couldn't tell you the name of this one on the opposite side of the road to Stac Pollaidh:

Impressive shark's tooth; again, I don't know what it's called:

Another view of Stac Pollaidh:

Lot's of peaceful little pools, lagoons and lochans along the coast road:

Impressive looking hulk; name?:

North coast cliffs:

Looping around Kyle of Tongue:

Lighthouse at Dunnet Head:

Ben Loyal I think?:

Altnaharra:

Castle Urquhart, Loch Ness, but what made the wake in the water?!  :o  :

Cairngorms:

Heading for Linn of Dee:

Glen Shee:

Schiehallion, Tay Forest:

Loch Tay at Kenmore:

Looking west from alongside Loch Tay:

There were many places where I wished I had time to go traipsing off into the hills on foot, but kitted out in the bike gear, it wouldn't have been too practical alas  :(

Wow, those are breathtaking, Hedgetrimmer - definitely worth sharing! Looks like you had perfect weather for it too...  O0

Thanks adalard, I hoped someone would enjoy looking through them  :)

Weather was great, but a stiff, cold wind on the north coast. Even fully kitted out, I got a bit chilled going to Dunnet Head and John O' Groats - took me a couple of hours to warm through again at the hotel at Thurso that evening.

I'm really glad you posted your photos HT, they are stunning! 8)   Is it possible to climb Stac Polliadh? I would love to do that.
Oh...and I really like the shot of the sun rays over Loch Tay  O0

Looks to me like there's some good climbing to be had on the cliffs at the top, if a little on the short side route-wise (although they're probably higher than you'd think from the pics), but I've no idea if there is a walking route to the top. Looks a little improbable, doesn't it? Perhaps on the opposite side to my photos, but I couldn't tell from the road. I'm sure someone here would know.

Yes, Stac Polaidh is a good scramble. I think the wake in the water near Urquhart Castle was caused by the Loch Ness Monster, which I'm sure you must have photographed!

Another vote for the Loch Tay shot as my favourite but with strong competition. Lovely pictures and I don't mind for a minute that you weren't on foot when you took them.

The tops, in your image, opposite Stac Pollaidh look like the North side of Ben Mor Coigach and the the next door neighbour Sgurr an Fhidleir.
The guidebook listed climbs on Stac Pollaidh are at the western end of the hill on Western Buttress.

Super pics bringing back memories of my own 'round the top' trip' a few years ago.
So many paths yet to walk, so little time left

Some stunning photos Hedgetrimmer. Made me yearn to return up north. Especially enjoyed the Assynt ones, brought back memories of my recent trip there. Must get the trip report done... Thank you for sharing!

Oh, and your "shark tooth" and "impressive-looking hulk" is Spidean Coinich, one of Quinag's three superb Corbetts. My fave mountain.
