Walks in Lake District 5 to 10 miles
« on: 15:44:51, 03/09/17 »
Hi,

Will be visiting the Lake district at the end of October and will be staying in Langdale.
I would like to know which walks are the best between 5 and 10 miles and without having to encounter cattle.
Many Thanks

Welcome to the forum  O0

"Best walk" is a bit subjective.  My best walk would be to catch the bus to Ambleside and walk back over and along the fells.

Other people's "best walk" may be a Langdale Pikes round for getting up high/scrambles.

Another "best walk" might be exploring the waterfalls, caves and old mining areas around the Langdale valley.

Looking forwards already to your trip report, whatever walk you end up doing  :)

Best Langdale walk is Bowfell - Crinkles - Pike of Blisco; this is my all time favourite walk. Second walk I've done is ODG - Harrison Stickle - Pavey Ark - Blea Rigg - Silver HOw - Grasmere; this would be 10 miles approximately. A shorter walk (half day) would be ODG - Lingmoor Fell - ELterwater. Langdale rambler 516 could be useful for A to B walks. Hope this helps, Henry

If you wanted a low level walk you could follow the Cumbria Way down through Elterwater and back into Little Langdale.  Then there's a track near the pub which takes you back into Great Langdale.  If you wanted to extend the circle, keep going up Little Langdale to Fell foot bridge and go back over by Blea tarn.
