Day 2

(Day 1 here http://www.walkingforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=37017.msg526208;topicseen#msg526208)

The rain had hammered down all night and we weren't looking forward to getting a soaking. We had our breakfast and packed our things away planning to get down as fast as we could and get the first bus to Penrith. The rain had stopped by the time we were ready to take the tent down and we set off toward Deepdale Bridge enjoying the misty views but not getting wet, how marvellous  :)

The view across the ridge wall to Gray Crag and Hartsop Dodd

Arnison Crag and a cloud capped Place Fell

Trees in Deepdale Park

Because the weather was ok we didn't get the first bus and we carried on walking toward Patterdale and joined the permissive path near Dubhow. We stopped for a brew and some food near Crookabeck. It was here that rain started to fall but it was quite light and we used the groundsheet as a shelter.

Beefy was off for an audition as the Big Bad Wolf

He'd draped the groundsheet over himself, like a poncho instead of putting his waterproof jacket on. He got a few smiles from other walkers we passed. The rain didn't last and Beefy put his costume away.

Plants at Crookabeck

I do love the gardens here, unusual plants here, no idea what they are. Pleb?

Sheffield Pike in the sun

The weather improved, all the better because it wasn't expected. We love this walk by Rooking.

Birks and cloud covering Birkhouse Moor

We were early for the next bus so we walked to Grisedale Bridge. We'd had a great camp and we hadn't got the drenching the forecast had promised, what a fab weekend. Day 2 was Pitch near Bleaberry Knott - Beckstones - Rooking - Grisedale Bridge 6.43km with 88m ascent.

Looks a decent weekend April and Beefy.  You did better than me on Sunday - I was in the Duddon Valley - on and off drizzle, muggy, flies and humidity - not my favourite day.

(The wet side?)

:) It normally is but we have had a great summer, back to normal now, more rain for the weekend.

You did better than me on Sunday - I was in the Duddon Valley - on and off drizzle, muggy, flies and humidity

Did you get a good day Saturday? The views were fab from where we were.

Saturday was fab April - Wasdale to Black Sail pass then up Kirk Fell Crags onto Kirk Fell and round the climbers traverse of Great Gable - hardly saw a soul until Styhead - Sunday was clearly pay back!

Two routes I have never done  :) I have done the bit from Styhead to Napes Needle though.

Aye, Sunday was a different day.

Sadly I didn't thread the needle - I wasn't concentrating and went past and then couldn't be bothered going back!  Good excuse to go back another day - wonderful route.

Kirk Fell Crags was a great route - I stood and looked at it, as my original plan was to turn left and go up Pillar, but a young guy was descending and making it look very easy so I decided to go for it.  Lovely route and nothing difficult, though it is quite steep in places and there is a bit of easy scrambling (it must be easy as I am the least supple person ever).

Lovely pics April O0   I photographed a plant like yours on Anglesey back in May, although mine wasn't fully in flower then.
I'll post my pic on a site I use and let you know what it is...(unless pleb or someone else beats me to it!)

Never done this either! We climbed Needle Ridge when we were there.

Kirk Fell Crags was a great route. Lovely route and nothing difficult, though it is quite steep in places and there is a bit of easy scrambling

I once tried to go up this way but I was hating the steep loose scree so went up by Baysoar slack instead

Thanks sunnydale, looks like someone has!
