camp sites in south west Scotland.

Anyone got any recommends please?  Preference would be a lesser commercialised site. No pitch No's etc , just find a quiet corner and pitch etc. But not essential. I will have 2 small dogs with me so that needs factoring in. Coastal paths or forest's to wander would be a bonus ;).

first week of September if that makes a difference.

Try Caldons camping site near Glen Trool.............look the web/map to find it.  Great place!

I thought Caldons was closed - it was deserted last time I passed through - about a year ago.  Soooo - I checked on Google and it is indeed permanently closed - but - you can camp there. This would be a wild camp since there's no facilities at all. There's a small campsite down the road at Bargrennan, though which is next to a pub and will take a few tents.  Midgies are a bit mad around there, though....

Ended up at the Solway View. On the coast close to Dumfries. Lovely site. Good facilities. Cracking views. Lots see locally etc. Going back in a few weeks with. Taking family this time.
