Light or Heavy Coat?

Hi all. I'm heading to the Peak District on Thursday and I'm wondering about the weather and the coat my son should wear.
He has a tog24 jacket, this one
https://www.tog24.com/catalog/product/view/id/47208/s/journey-kids-milatex-jacket-grey-marl/category/302/
I'm not sure if he'd be best wearing that, or a thinner, rubber waterproof coat which he has, with plenty of layers underneath.
I'm just thinking of the bulkiness of the heavier coat. Or if it would get too hot walking.
What do you think please?

Personally, I'd go for the waterproof coat and layers. At least you then have a choice if it's wet, cold, windy, hot, etc, put extra on, take layers off to adapt to the weather conditions at the time.

Agree with gunwharfman, layers is the way to go, then he can adjust to suit the conditions.
