TR The beach at Bamburgh Sun 8 Mar 20

We packed our gear into the car, said our goodbye to the pod and the nice staff at Riverside and drove to Bamburgh. It was really windy, stronger than the day before so we had a short walk on the beach before we drove home.

This was Squeaky's first time at the seaside and she ran around sniffing the sand, the seaweed and the sea. She even went into to the sea for a short time then came straight back out when she felt how cold it was!

We walked for about a mile and a half along the beach then turned back to have some lunch in the car. It was too windy to sit on the benches! The 3 miles was enough for us, we'd had enough of the wind. We will definitely go back to stay in the pod again, hopefully we will have less windy conditions next time. We still had a great few days and we were lucky we had some good views and we hadn't got wet.

Lovely photos, April. The beaches on the Northumbrian coast are gorgeous, Tess would be in her element. And that blowing sand reminds me of Orkney.

Go back in May and early June and take the boat from Seahouses to the Farnes. Absolutely amazing seabird populations on the islands and you can get really close to the nesting hordes!

A boat trip to Farne at nesting time is truly amazing, just make sure you take a hat as being dive bombed by terns can be very painful.
BTW dogs are not allowed on the island.

Just south of hge Castle there are some great sand dunes where you can get shelter from the wind off the German sea. The bit bearer the castle us a bit flatter than those further south and we often had subbay picnics there. Years later, on TV TimeTeam was excavating there uncovering the Saxon graveyard which is actually under those flatter dunes. The sea was quite a bit further out in the first millennium  a. d.
I love Embleton Bay a wee bit better, huge stretch of sand, very few people and a bit further down the Sugar Sands.

We planned this trip in January after the Spine Race, it made me home sick  We have another trip booked in the summer.

We did think of you on the beach in Orkney, thinking you would be used to the wind blowing that strong!
