To Fernman. I use a Osprey Exon 48L and a stiff mesh contours against my back, then an air gap, then the body of the rucksack. I use the air gap to stuff my rain skirt in so it's instantly ready for use if it rains.

Well, that answers that one!

On the subject of the stiff mesh back, my Vaude daysack can get a bit warm and I've wondered if it's because the mesh is very fine, and would be improved if it was a bit larger.
