TR - the Bochlwyd Horseshoe
« on: 23:00:26, 27/04/19 »
The first of a Snowdonia scrambling triple bill and a repeat of the route I did back in October. The Bochlwyd horseshoe is an epic outing, perhaps only surpassed by the Snowdon Horseshoe

Interesting TR involving lots of scrambling. I enjoyed my mini scramble the other day but don't have the stamina to do a scramble route like yours. Makes for a nice vicarious experience.

Splendid stuff, a touch of mist always adds a lot to the atmosphere on the spiky ridge  O0

A great route, Dave, reminds me of what I got up to 30 years ago when Tryfan and the Glyders were almost on my back door! Thanks for posting. The Gribin Ridge is often overlooked, and makes a great ascent, especially in winter conditions.

I wouldn't have enjoyed the hordes on The Nose, though!

Very good Dave, it’s a classic route although I’ve not done Bristly, shame it’s popularity overshadows what is a fine day out (for me anyway). We were last in Cwm Idwal and the Ogwen valley back in February, we got out early and managed a good two hours to ourselves, thanks for posting a cracking TR  O0

What a smashing write up and pics.  Definitely beyond my capabilities but still an enjoyable read  O0

I love the pic of "the route from Glyder Fach to Castell y Gwynt" - having people in it really gives a sense of perspective.

Do not forget the Cwm Eigiau Horseshoe, that i recon comes very close to the Snowdon Horseshoe.

Then there's the Cwm Llafar Horseshoe, and one ive made up myself, a traverse of Diffwys via Bwlch Yr Rhiwgyr, and on towards Yr Lethr and finishing off on Moelfre's summit.

That' ones quite a challenge, not very far distance wise, but far enough, and after a bit of rain, fishing waders would come in handy below Yr Lethr, one of the boggiest locations next to the Carneddau's Caseg Valley i know of.

Snowdonia has loads of classic walks, but my no one favourite is the Eigiau classic, and if the pea soup is down, you can spend an eternity on the summit of Llewellyn.

Great write up of a fantastic trip - walking the Glyders is always a classic day out.  I still think Bristly Ridge is a step too far for me - I'm awful at downward scrambling.
