That's right the original owner, instead of renting/selling the cottage to a local, decided to cash in by selling to some one outside from outside the area. It is now bringing tourist money and jobs in to the area.
I know you were joking Brandywell but, as someone who lives in north London, I'm always happy to talk property prices. If my kids have the same sort of career that I have had they will never buy a property withing 100 miles of where they have lived all their lives.
