Whilst urban walking isn't everyone's cup of tea it can give a different look to a city. The High Line is a 1.1 mile long urban park built on an old elevated rail Road.  Run by volunteers the park is a green oasis and is well tended.  It's only problem is that it is not long enough!

I shall always remember my first view of New York, and indeed of America = sailing up past the Statue of Liberty with the iconic Manhatten skyline in front, before the 9/11 devastation.  I like the idea of  rural pathways through cities, perhaps better than large parks. Even better if cycleways could be incorporated

I walked most of the length of the High Line during a holiday to NYC in July. We really enjoyed it some fantastic vies of the city streets and buildings.
