Thanks for posting, looks as if you have had a great time in the Lakes. I enjoyed the read and the photos, despite the mist. I did almost exactly the same walk in 1984, although we skipped Yewbarrow at the end, dropping down to the west.

Must go back and Yewbarrow sometime, it looks a most impressive hill from the Wasdale road, despite its modest height.

Thanks Richard. Yes we had a great time, the weather certainly didn't put us off.
Neither of the paths up Yew Barrow is easy but I wouldn't fancy a descent of the north end.

Great shots of the clag Ridge  :(

Shame you didn't get all the views because they are tremendous. By crikey, you don't mind a tough route. Up and down Kirk Fell the hardest way and up and down Yewbarrow the hardest way. Two up on me, I have never done those fells by those routes  :)

Your first photo is really nice  O0

I'm pleased you enjoyed your trip but there is still your Green Crag account to come isn't there?

Thanks April.
I knew Kirk Fell was a killer but any other route either added miles or would mean retracing our steps later.
Which way would you descend Yew Barrow? I thought that we had picked the easier way.

Yes still a quick out and back to Green Crag to report on.

I've only ever been up and down Yewbarrow on the path up and down from the col between the two tops. It looked like you came down the Bell Rib path? Looks horrendous to my eyes  ;D

Great photos. So very keen to visit the Lake District asap.

Especially like the god rays in the first one lighting up the few fields perfectly.

Yes we came down the Bell Rib path, but only because that is the only path on the map, and yes it was a bit horrendous at times. The scrambling bits were ok but there were steep dust sections of path where you just had no grip.

Thanks, that pic was just a quick snap while I waited at the side of the road for my son to go back to the car to get his phone which he had forgotten.

You're welcome. And I really like it when you get a cracking photo when it's unexpected like that. One of my favourite photos I've taken was just by the roadside looking down into Ogwen Valley where we happened to get a parking spot.

That's a cracking day out - full respect from me for going up Kirk Fell that way - it looks horrendous to me!

The easy descent off Yewbarrow brings you out close to Dore Head, so adds a bit of distance but is easier on the knees.

It is shown in the AW guide book, there is no path marked on the map but there are a few trods that lead to the col. One does start near Dore Head as pdstsp mentions. I have used this a few times and also a pathless more direct route up to and from the col from near Gosforth Crag Moss.

Thanks April, that is definitely worth knowing for the future.
I tend to read the Wainwrights out of interest but plan routes using the OS map, perhaps I should combine the 2 more.

Thanks Beefy.
So many that I want to do again, either because the views weren't great or because they were.
