The snowdrops have been out since late January, I've spotted several Lesser Celandines in flower on the Orkney clifftops, and today I saw and heard skylarks singing their hearts out.
Love this time of year; the nights are getting longer, and although we will probably still get some foul weather, spring is just around the corner and the year seems so full of promise. :)
-
Hear hear to your optimism! :)
I walked home on a local bridleway this afternoon and there were lambs in nearly every field.
-
I do admire the optimism as well. Still very cold, grey, windy and rainy in Belgium.
-
Our snow drops are looking a bit battered but I did think only this morning as I got in the car to drive to work that it wasn't actually 'night' so the days are starting to feel longer.

:) Aye, bring on Spring and some wild camping O0

I hope I see signs of spring tomorrow, will be thrilled to see lambs, but not so much the mud around Great Witley , in the Malvern hills .
-
Ohhhh . . . flowery pictures please. I need to believe. Give something to go on for the next week. ;)

Even in Shetland there are green shoots visible here and there. Snowdrops and some early daffodils and, as Richard says, the of the indestructible celandines. Only shoots mind so I'm keeping a lid on the optimism.

Wow! What a hairstyle ;)

Yes, we've noticed the lengthening days too - it really does give you a psychological boost.
We have some shoots appearing in the garden but most of the signs of spring I've seen so far have been from people sharing pics on social media. We did go walking in the Dales last weekend but the snow was fairly thick on the ground at the time so it definitely felt like winter was holding fast onto the countryside there.
-
Just been on my first trip after 2 weeks laid up with a bad cold and chest problems. Everywhere is still very wet but the snowdrops well on and the odd daffodil is out too. We can't count lambs as a spring sign - round here they start in November. However, with all the wet there was a staggering amount of frog spawn to be seen.
-
So far this season I've only managed two days out on the planks. Once on alpine skis at Cairngorm there was only the shortened beginners tow open so we went off piste and hit rocks. Last weekend I had a day on cross country skis in the forest at Glenmore, lovely blue sky day on violet wax (0 degree C to -2 degree C). I was hoping it would last till this coming weekend but Friday into Saturday morning is forecast heavy rain, turning colder later in the week but might be too late.
Who know, last year the beast from the east wasn't until March so there is still hope but so far a very poor ski season.

Hiked on Abberley Hill today, & it was grand. Did not see any lambs but did see, Daffs, Snowdrops, Deer with two Stags & plenty of birds. A Robin was singing his heart out at one stage..It certainly raises spirits.! O0 O0
-
We don’t have snowdrops, but we still have snow in the garden.
-
Croci starting to emerge here, spotted my first lambs yesterday, and heard a skylark.
-
When I went for the train yesterday morning it did feel very spring-like. Lots of birds singing, mild temperature and a bright morning despite some cloud.
Am about to do the same journey now and will be heading out into sideways sleet and snow, a gale and heavy mist. Several major roads near us closed too - A53, Cat-and-Fiddle, Snake Pass...
Don't count your swallows is the moral I guess - or whatever the spring equivalent is - cuckoos?

Nice model, but I believe it needs a very long flex.
I thought the houses in the background didn't seem to be vernacular to these shores ;D
And here's us lot whinging about a bit of snow.
-
It certainly has not arrived here yet.
Snow flurries at the carpark on the Crimea this morning, so the fairy mild weather of the past few days has gone somewhere.
The snow is not settling like last week, but Spring is a long way from Snowdonia at the moment.

Red breasted merganzers courting :-* on the R Exe and coots nest building on Exminster marsh yesterday. Nest probably blown away today :(
-
The ice has gone from the river Dee and the snow in the garden is now melting - but not gone yet.
-
*grin* Innominate, I wasn't half kidding about needing to believe in spring that day, though. It was -32C.
I love reading these springy posts because we probably won't start greening up again until April. Hard to tell these days. Maybe earlier!
It absolutely blew my mind to see so many things flowering in December when I was in Malhamdale. People must have wondered who the idiot was taking pictures of their front garden. I may also have been clapping and giggling.

Gale force winds, snow showers and rain forecast today for the Lake District. Not Spring here as yet. We are having a late start, the wind is forecast to abate this afternoon.
-
Didn't feel like spring on the Kirkwall Parkrun this morning, to be honest. Quite vile. :o
-
Just back from a stunning 5 miles with the dog, along the local beach and clifftops. Sun shining, warm wind, Celandines and Coltsfoot coming out, didn't meet a soul - all is good with the world. :)
-
Make the most of it. This could be the best we get all year :(

Same here. The word content, comes to mind. I walked 7 mile round the village of Rous Lench in Worcestershire. Passed a few really nice walkers...smiles for miles..I will have a tan tomorrow..sat on a hill overlooking beautiful countryside half way round..this walking game is ok isn`t it O0 (http://i68.tinypic.com/214r0vr.jpg)

Sorry to put a dampener on the weather, but this afternoon i was in the garden centre in llandudno junction.
I wanted some John Innes no 3 Compost to replant several shrubs.
The staff told me to put the repotting on hold, as the winter was making a guest appearance next week.
We have been simply spoilt with this incredibly mild sunny weather, but i was told there is a distinct possibility of snow in March.
Garden centres need to plan ahead, and if they told me that winter is set to return, they are probably right, as their business depends on an accurate long term forecast.
-
Hey I don’t mind a bit of snow to be honest DA, it’s the rain I’m not keen on.
-
Just been listening to the forecast..back to average temperatures next week at 8/9C & potentially some snow in Scotland.. :(

Now you tell me, I've just taken my skis in to have the damage repaired, the damage I did trying to ski on the very thin cover we've had so far this year.

Your story seems to confirm we will have a foot of snow soon...s*ds law :o
