It looks as if there are as many reasons to walk as there are places to walk. What has never changed is that everybody cheerfully greets you when they pass - nice folk and there are nice folk on this forum. Hopefully this year I can partake in one of the legendary 'meets'. I hope everybody enjoys themselves/finds a soulmate/realises that they really do like walking etc this year and that those who are feeling knackered get better real quick and as for Mick - respect!

Thanks for the kind comments , I know I go on about my bad day on here  tooooooooo  much , its just when I came out of hospital I searched the net for info about hiking and other outdoor  walking  activities for above knee amputees  and found nothing , so sooner or later one of you will know someone who has been through what I went through and perhaps point them to this forum , it might just help them in some small way to know that it is more than possible to continuo this pastime , I know it would have helped me .(does that make sense ).
And the one saying I keep on hearing is I wish I had done this ect ect ect …….well go out and do it don’t put it off.(sorry going of into rant mode again)
Dibs you deserve to meet that someone special O0
PS    I’m certainly not inspirational, save that for our boys and girls coming home from dry hot dusty places with horrendous injuries. and  A J don’t take this the wrong way BUT you can keep your love  , you should know by now that I only have eyes for the sheep :-* :-* .eh I mean the wife (did I say sheep?).

You can take with you all the gear money can buy, but what's the point if you don't take a camera?

Mick, a very truly inspirational story and one that I hope will inspire everybody. As children (back in the day!) we would always be off every other weekend with our mom and dad (God rest his soul x) with the touring caravan in tow to some far flung corner of the countryside with fellow friends of our small caravan club. I loved walking and would always be the one to arrange a small ramble for those who wanted to join. I guess that's where my passion for our wonderful countryside and walking began. Sadly after my dad passed on the club was dispanded and all was lost.
Many years later in 2009 I was diagnosed with Diabetes and weighing in at just under 19 stone I was told by my GP to lose weight. To cut a long story a little shorter in 2010 I ran the Birmingham half marathon in a little under two and a half hours and weighed in at a little over 12 stones! I'm not so much a fitness fanatic and don't particularly enjoy running although I wanted to prove something to myself. My weight loss was through dieting and yes, you've guessed it... walking miles and miles and miles! My passion for walking has been born again and you bet I'll be doing it for the foreseeable future.
Hiking is the best workout! You can hike for three hours and not even realise you're working out. And, hiking alone lets me have some time to myself!

Whew! Respect, as they say! I jsut got a book by Stu Mittelman which is very inspiring, I tried running yesterday and managed about 200 yards uphill  :o   I can still walk a long way though....  Changing my diet bit at a time trying to shift those stones....wouldnt mind being 12 st, think last time i weighed that i was about 13 yrs old :)

PS Lovin this thread  O0 O0 O0

If I don't get out walking Cabin Fever sets in, and then I'm unbearable to live with. Or so I've been told.
