This a great place, great idea, great value.
The residents of Keld have set up a Do It Youself cafe in one of their public buildings, there are a couple of kettles, tea, coffee, soft drinks, and a variety of home made cakes all at the the price of £1.00 per item.
If you are in the area call in its well worth supporting.

Great idea. Similar in a church at Newchurch on Offa's Dyke walk, open with kettle, tea, coffee, biscuits etc and just a request for a 'donation' O0

I'll try to visit the Keld one in May while on my PW walk.

What a brilliant idea. I will be in the Dales in June, so I will certainly be calling in.
-
I often pop into this one...

2 great ideas. I hope they both get well supported

I came across a similar place in rural France along the GR65 last year. I was served by an old man who was attached to an oxygen bottle and a tube up his nose. Right outside what was a small old chapel was an old covered bus stop with two easy deckchairs inside, that's where I had my coffee and cake. It was such a hot day and the bus shelter shade was really good. The old man was great fun and was obviously enjoying himself as people like me came and went.

Thanks for the pointer.
Ennerdale YH does something similar. And if you drink your tea out the back, you get a great view of Ennerdale and Pillar.

Black Sail YHA does too.

Black Sail YHA does too.
And a very welcome stop that was too on the wettest day of our C2C. It was absolutely packed out, everyone stopped off to eat their lunch in the dry, and have a brew to warm up. It was steaming, literally!

Yes it does BUT like a lot of the YHA network its only open to the public half of the year..........

There used to be a Tea Shed with honesty box at Culbone just by the tine church on the SWCP in Somerset. does anyone know if it still exists?
-
There's quite a nice café in Keld which lets me and my mucky dog in and they make the tea and toasted teacakes/bacon butties for you... just saying... Although the do-it-yourself tea sheds are quite handy to have in more remote spots..
-
Plenty of loyalty boxes and places like this dotted all over the country O0
-
Yes I agree, they are all over the country. There's been one on PW for about 30 years if not more......originally run by grandparents of the current owner/occupier of the farm.
I was wondering how the local existing cafe at the campsite farm responded to the one opened in Keld, after all it's only a very small place.
-
There's a DIY café in Thornton Steward near Jervaulx Abbey. In the village hall if I remember correctly.
-
Theres a barn café as you come down/back from Whernside in the Y3P.................western side. Not sure about opening times though.

It opens again on Saturday 15th April 2017. The snack bar opens all Saturdays and Sundays until the end of September.
They also have a campsite there now O0
-
Then theres the snack van at the car park down from Ribblehead. Or is that what you meant?
-
As you entered the grounds of Shap Abbey on the C2C there was a container of snack and drinks with an honesty box run by the farmer, Don't know if it is still there.

It was last year, but it was only a couple of miles to go before Shap so I didn't bother. There is also one just under the bridge in the woodland after Burnbanks, not long after the dam on Haweswater.
Nope Pleb, I meant the one when you descend Whernside towards Ingleborough O0

Erm......... :-\ :-\ :-\

Th cool box was there at Christmas (Boxing Day), but empty barring a few wrappers. I expect the owner doesn't stock it until the better walking weather.
