We started a day walk from Rosthwaite on Saturday we weren't going camping with the weather set for very heavy rain all day.

Misty view of Castle Crag

The rain was tipping down as we started and I didn't take that many photos

Autumn colours below Castle Crag

We joined the footpath to Gowder Dub

The dying bracken added to the lovely colours around

Lots of water in Broadslack Gill

There was lots of water everywhere, the paths were flooded in places and the becks were all very full too

Walking by Hollows Farm campsite

We stopped for our lunch off the path near Hollows Farm and we deployed the storm shelter.

Beefy in the storm shelter

We felt very cold and damp after we'd eaten our lunch. We had planned to walk to Braithwaite but when I discovered my hood was full of water from rain dripping off the storm shelter into it we decided to walk to Grange and get the early bus home. My new waterproof, a Rab Downpour jacket is still under review  :-\
I had a triangle of wetness below my neck on my t shirt, I'm not sure if I had the jacket zipped up to the top all of the time though. The pockets are not waterproof, my mobile was in there and got very wet. I think I remember there was a warning note inside the pocket saying the pockets weren't waterproof but I'd forgotten. Beefy's jacket is no longer totally waterproof even after reproofing so he was quite wet too. We were glad to be going home to dry off. Our walk was a very short one - Rosthwaite - Gowder Dub - Grange 5km with 95m ascent, I did more mileage during the week walking from work! After not wanting to work for a few days my phone is now working  O0

The trip report from Sunday will be in the "Rest of England" department shortly  :)

I see beefy is taking his auditioning for a part in the 118 ads to a new level: Hope he's successful this time  :D

Sounds like the right idea not to camp out overnight... But you got some lovely pictures despite the weather conditions. I especially liked the atmospheric one of Castle Crag in the low cloud at the start, and the one of Broadslack Gill.  :) O0

We were lucky down here in the Peak District on Saturday, as it was mainly dry - very windy though, and strangely warm. I ended up being way too hot and wishing I'd worn my shorts when we went up on the moors.

Thanks pdstsp - one of the bus drivers we saw when we got back to Carlisle asked if we were mad  ;D Probably right  :)

;D Try wearing it in very heavy rain that lasts a few hours and get back to us  ;)

This was a bit of an in joke with beefy. Trespass in Keswick always seem to have 50% off!
