Garavogue river walk
« on: 14:48:21, 05/09/21 »
My first walk last week-end was from my hotel door step. I wanted to familiarize myself with Sligo and its surrounding hills to plan for future walks. It was a fairly cloudy day so decided to walk low level and not climb any mountains. The route was circular taking in the Garavogue river, Cairn wood and a vantage point beyond the forest on a minor road before returning to Sligo. I particularly enjoyed the green fields and the two levels of mountain ranges with Copes mountain in the foreground and Benbulben/Kings mountain in the background. Total distance was 14km. Before climbing Truskmore on Monday I did the Benbulben forest walk.

There's something very enigmatic about Benbulben.

Nice pics henry  O0 Benbulben looks like it is impossible to walk up but I'm sure there must be a way up it  :)

That looks a lovely walk Henry  O0

The last pic of Benbulben reminds me of Pen-y-Ghent in the Yorkshire Dales with it's banded ridges.

Thanks for replies everyone; I'm saving Benbulben for a clear day, I believe it can be climbed from a place called Lukes Bridge. I would say it probably is the most popular and well-known peak in the dartry range :)
