Hi, I'm new to walking and looking for some advice.

Some friends and I are looking for a 3 day hike for a holiday around wales / cornwall / southwest, preferably in a circuit so we can leave and return to a car.  We're fit and active, so a challenging route is not a problem (bar lack of walking / hiking experience)

I've looked at places like Lands End / Snowdon base, but not really found anything that grabs me.

It would be nice to have a couple of points along the trip that give us somewhere nice to stay, and give the trip some focus.

Can anyone suggest an interesting route? Sorry it's a vague question, but would really like to do this holiday, though am stuck on location. Thought this might be the right place to find people with good knowledge of routes.

Many thanks.

there is a bunk house at Zennor (Cornwall) and from there you have excellent access to a magnificent stretch of coast from St Ives to (dodging Lands End itself) Lamorna Cove. There is a very regular bus service along the road westward from St Ives just inland.

Going the other way ditto from the east of Gwithian village through to Perranporth. Sorry, don't know accommodation, but must be some and Porthtowan is my favourite for both 1st class beach, shop and chips with no [censored] in sight. St Agnes second.

For a preview see my photo galleries http://www.pbase.com/crisscross/cornwallwrap [nofollow] & http://www.pbase.com/crisscross/cornwall__landsend [nofollow]

PS will be doing the part missing from photogalleries next week, ie Sennen to Pendeen; I know it from NT working hols, but welcome company tho am probably too old for you

Have you looked at the Southwest coast path website. There are loads of options on there including circular routes which cover parts of the path and then walking slightly inland. You can also use it as a basis for making up your own routes. There are also quite a few options for public transport and accommodation so that you could leave car, get bus/train, then linear walk back.

Hi,

Train to Penzance,

Day 1 - Bus to Praa Sands - Walk back to Penzance (plenty of Pubs, Hotels, Hostels, B&B)
Day 2 - Penzance to Treen Cliffs (Pub, B&B, Campsite)
Day 3 - Treen Cliffs to Cape cornwall (St Just - Hostel, Pubs & B&B or take Bus back to Penzance (or take bus following morning)

Great walks with great views!

The distance calculator on that web-site is extremely useful

If you are landlocked like me, when you go to the coast, you don't want a circle that means that half the time you are walking inland away from the sound and sight of breaking waves (and opportunities for cool-off swims) - hence my mention of the bus along the coast west from St Ives which takes you back if you follow the coast till you are knackered. ;)

I also slightly differ from Madmax in preferring to jump boring stuff like Penzance to Marazion & loads of pavement eg if you get into Newlyn :P

Do an adult 10 Tors on Dartmoor.

Pick 10 Tors that amount to 50 miles

Check out whether or not the ranges will be in use:

You can wild camp. Loads of parking all around dartmoor and on some on it. Checkout the National Park website.
I've never known such a bear for getting in a mess. Mr Brown referencing Paddington Bear
