This week-end's walk saw me take in 5 lower summits in the western Mournes. Starting from Leitrim Lodge I ascended Altataggart to start with followed by Tievedockaragh. This is a steep ascent followed by a level plateau. Following Batts wall briefly I branched eastwards towards Pierces Castle, the highlight of the round. Pierces Castle is a rocky mound which is a welcome relief after the marshy terrain from Tievedockaragh. Thereafter I descended to Tornamrock before ascending Rocky mountain. I completed the circular loop by descending the southern side of the mountain back to Leitrim lodge. Total distance was 9.5km.
