Some recent walks ...
« on: 20:11:52, 30/06/08 »
Last weekend we never got upto that much, we shelved our planned walk due to the heavy overnight rain and strong winds and went for a walk along the river Swale at Richmond, returning over Whitcliffe Scar, a really lovely little walk, if a bit breezy along the edge of the escarpment on the way back .. walk photo's and details ... http://www.mywainwrights.co.uk/2008walks/220608/220608.html

This Saturday saw us up in Northumberland at Blanchland having a walk over Blanchland Moors and through Slaley Forest, very easy walking on good tracks, with the bonus of the chance to explore the old village of Blanchland ... http://www.mywainwrights.co.uk/2008walks/280608/280608.html

Yesterday we went for a walk at Hamsterley Forest in County Durham, )this was going to be our planned walk last Sunday, but there are a couple of streams to cross which can be tricky after heavy rain) but instead of staying in the forest all day we headed out over Pikestone Fell using the network of really good tracks, again lovely easy walking and excellent views .... http://www.mywainwrights.co.uk/2008walks/290608/290608.html

That Ayhope Shield place used to be an MBA bothy - regularly trashed by the naughty boys from Newton Aycliffe school - and eventually demolished by the shooting estate who got fed up of the troublesome teens.  Me and my old dawg once spent a noisy and smoky night there (very busy nocturnal rabbit activities and a blocked chimney) The dog spent the whole night growling and grumbling...
Good pics, though, Gary

Thanks Mike ... how long ago did they demolish the old farm, I've walked round there for several years and have never seen any sign of it???
