Melting Glaciers

Glaciers seem to be melting at an alarming rate. In 1990 I spent a couple of weeks in the French Alps. I made an attempt to cross the Col Du Clot Des Cavales, which is above 3100m. I stayed the night at the Refuge Du Pave (2850m) and descended before making my climb up the glacier. It turned out that I didn’t quite reach the col and my ice axe skills were called upon as I rapidly lost most of the height I had gained. This was in the height of summer, with valley temperatures about 35C, but there was still plenty of snow and a steep verglas slope. Now it appears that it would be much easier for me as the glacier has disappeared in summer months.
