TR Aira Force from Dockray Sat 14 Mar 20
« on: 18:54:39, 17/03/20 »
We were going to Souther Fell on Saturday, a day walk, because surprise, surprise, the weather was too bad overnight for wild camping. As we drove along the A66 we couldn't see any fells because the clag was down to valley level so we turned left at Troutbeck and parked at Dockray to do a walk including Aira Force instead. It started raining as we got out of the car so it was on with full waterproofs. The rain was a bit on and off and not that bad.

On the path from Dockray, Place Fell now visible

The clag had started to lift and we had some views

Aira Force

There was a lot of water in the beck and also a lot of people about.

We walked down to the bottom car park, I wanted to see if the NT car parks take debit card payment. They don't  :o

We had lunch sheltering in the trees. Rain had started to fall more heavily. We walked back up to Aira Force but on the other side of the beck to the one we'd come down on.

Aira Force from the path on the left side of the beck

High Force

View from the path back to Dockray

Not a bad walk, it could have done with being a bit longer. Our route was Dockray - Millses - Aira Beck - High Force - Aira Force - NT car park - Aira Force - High Force - Millses - Dockray. 4.25 miles with approx 200m ascent.

Nice walk and about right for the weather.  O0
We'd be glad of a relatively wild little walk like that at the moment, it seems that we'll be confined to walks from the door in the Cheshire flatlands for quite a while yet.  :(

Lovely pics again.
If we all need some great, escapist photos now is the moment.

Wow - gorgeous photos of Aira Force, April.

Used to stay at the big Watermillock caravan site in my early teens, and we often did the lovely walk around the front of Gowbarrow Fell to Aira Force.

;D ;D ;D
I'm sure some people do, just not us.
In fact, thinking about it, my Dad went there 2 years ago in the sunshine but he was 80 at the time. Of course, to give him the proper Lake District experience, it did start to pour as he was on his way back to the car.

Short and sweet  O0

Thanks Pleb, I am  :D

Good choice of walk for a rainy day April :)

We are running out of options now  ;)

it seems that we'll be confined to walks from the door in the Cheshire flatlands for quite a while yet.  :(

:(  It is a very worrying time. I feel for the people who may lose their jobs or have no money because of it all  :(

A nice little wander

It was  :)

If we all need some great, escapist photos now is the moment.

Thanks Ridge. Talking about escaping our friend Annie who is getting on a bit has just returned home from 3 months trekking in South America. She packed her car after four days back home and has disappeared into the wilderness with her tent in case the government confine her to barracks.

You are right for the likes of us. There would be even more people there on a nice day and we wouldn't bother  :D

Lovely, thanks again fie taking the time to do a TR

Thanks sunnydale, you are right  :)

We have been to Aira Force when it has been in spate and more. We didn't know how the bridge below it survived the rush of water,
