Finally a decent week-end of sunshine in Mournes
. I had a couple of hours to kill today so I headed up Rocky mountain in the western Mournes. It was a 'to there and back again' walk, the route of ascent was simply reversed for the descent. I started from Leitrim Lodge where a small car park can hold 25 cars. After crossing a small bridge I branched off the main path up the south side of the mountain. I gained the summit within 35 minutes of starting. The special element of the view is Hen mountain directly ahead is probably the smallest mountain in the range while Slieve Donard, to the right, is the tallest. I counted 25 mountains from the summit. Total distance was approximately 3km taking just over an hour. It was great to be back in the Mournes again.
