New to the forum -- hello from Surrey
« on: 19:46:14, 24/04/20 »
Hello everyone! I’m David, and I live in Guilford, Surrey.

I probably wouldn't have discovered this site today following the recent spell of good weather, had it not been for the lockdowns (every cloud...).

I do a lot of my walks along rivers and exposed paths, but absolutely love walking along the coast.

I've also recently started a non-profit (timing has never been my strong point) with the aim of virtually mapping all the paths in the UK with the help of volunteer walkers. I won't mention it here, as I don't want this post to be misconstrued as an advert.

Welcome from Devon.

How does your project differ from https://www.openstreetmap.org/about?

Hi @ninthace, and thanks!

It doesn't differ -- we actually publish data (360 images) on top of Open Street Map with the aim of improving the map (and letting people explore virtually).

Without getting too techy for a Friday night, this includes adding accessibility data to Open Street Map by detecting stairs / steep gradients / uneven footpaths in the 360 photos we capture.

Welcome dg, I am in Yeovil and am fortunate to live within an easy drive to soms stunning coast line.
It's all uphill from here.

Welcome!
I grew up not far from Guildford, I have good memories of walking and cycling in the North Downs, along the Wey etc. :)

Hi David and Welcome from Shropshire sounds an interesting project. Maybe you will be able to introduce some interesting topics, if and when you have proved your cred. My county is the largest inland county that forces any C2C through Wales into unnecessary detours and away from the best lines. Plenty of scope for virtual routes  ;D , I have turned a few actual walks  8) but it is a knowledge of the 'guardians' that is the key to safe passage.  :)

I hope members won't mind if I mention it, but David introduced himself about 3 months ago - long before one of the welcomers had even joined the forum!  ;)
