Thought we (wife & myself) would get one last walk in before clocks go back. Decided upon the Devon Coast to Coast; had to be with B&B's - walking with the wife.
What a rip off B&B's are on this walk.
Averaging £100 per night (as much as £110 where B&B has a monopoly) usually for a small box room with 'grubby' facilities; sharing the dining room with dogs allowed to sit on the chairs, being petted by barmaid/waiters whilst serving food/drinks, gnawing a large bone during breakfast; as many as 5 dogs in the dining area, dog in the lounge, in 5 of the places we stayed.
'Walkers' breakfast - 1 sausage, 1 rasher of bacon, half a tomato & a spoon full of scrambled egg, 1 round of toast - to walk 21 miles on!
We were at pains to ensure we cleaned our boots before arriving at accommodation points and we carried smart casual clothes + slippers so as not to sit around in our walking gear.
The B&B's we stayed at all said they cater for walkers.
The walk itself is good and we met some great people.
During previous LDW's we have stayed at some really excellent accommodation.
